I made this map myself, sourced from world population review and other supporting websites. Looking at it now it may be just snow leopard and not leopard and snow leopard…

According to the Wikipedia article, the term ‘big cat’ also includes cheetahs and mountain lions (cougars) although they are not in the genus Panthera.

Do jaguars continue to roam in the United States? I thought their current range was more limited.

  3. Hate to say it, but this map sucks

You’re highlighting all of Russia for Lions, and all of America for Jaguars?

    Not map porn.

  4. mountain lions taking out bikers and hikers not counted, kinda useless. don’t see any jaguars in new jersey! jaguars are in Florida but not too many.

  5. Based on the latest data, jaguars do not currently have a viable wild breeding population in the United States. [source](https://panthera.org/blog-post/jaguars-united-states-your-questions-answered#:~:text=Based%20on%20the%20latest%20data,Jaguar%20Conservation%20Unit%20in%20Mexico)

Florida would be the place to find wild cats such as puma and bobcats, which could also be found in Canada, so I’m wondering why there was no Puma category to encompass North America.

  6. Kyrgyzstan having none while nestled in the middle of all the others that have them is sad.

Ive lived in puma, cougar, mountain lion, and bobcat territory

The bobcats scared me the most(second only to the boars)

Using national / political boundaries to describe the range of wild animals is so fucking stupid. Please show me jaguars in Alaska or Hawaii.

  9. Interesting map

Do mountain lions/cougars not count as big cats then? Would they be #6 maybe?
