Several news outlets have reported that SoftBank Group’s Vision Fund will invest 500 million dollars in US tech firm OpenAI.

US news site The Information and Britain’s Financial Times reported on Monday that the fund plans to take part in OpenAI’s latest funding round.

The maker of ChatGTP is trying to raise about 6.5 billion dollars to develop artificial intelligence. It is in talks with several firms, such as tech giant Microsoft and chip major Nvidia.

This comes as OpenAI is reportedly planning to turn itself into a for-profit company.

Tech giant Apple was also discussing investment in OpenAI, but some reports say it has withdrawn from the negotiations.

SoftBank Group Chairman and CEO Son Masayoshi said in June that AI will be a pillar of its business.
