Hello Bulgarians! greetings from Serbia.

I just ordered a black angus steak from a restaurant and received meatballs/patties.

When i confronted the waiter she told me "steak" means patties even though in the English translation of the menu it said "steak". Bifteak in Serbian means steak.

Was this just a misunderstanding or was i scammed by the restaurant? Here is the image of the order

  1. Bifteki are Greek meatballs, not steak. So, you’re wrong for thinking it’s steak and the restaurant is wrong for incorrectly labeling the item in the English menu.

It’s kind of a tourist scam that Bulgarian restaurants gaslight you that it’s a real food when you bring up that bifec is supposed to be steak.

Even I fell it one time. Thought i was ordering steak and they served me some shitty meatball. When I complained the waiter started coping about it so i just left because i hate minced meat ans simply couldn’t finish it even if i forced myself.

  3. Everybody saying that “Бифтек” means meatball is wrong. Like you mentioned “Бифтек” is a sliced beef stake.

“Бифтеци” makes the word plural and diminutive so that could indeed be considered a meatball (Not that I agree).

In any case, if the menu mentioned “steak ” in English you should have gotten a steak .
