It’s close because there are millions of voters who pay zero attention to politics. All they do is work, enjoy/hate life with family, and run along that rat wheel. They pop their heads out once every 4 years and compare, broadly, the feels of one party vs the other, and then vote on that basis. Politicians spend millions in dollars and energy points to capture these “popups”
Meanwhile, the politicians ignore their base during this time of capturing the popups. They concentrate their efforts to swing states w/the most electoral votes that have the most popups and that’s just how it has to be done due to the electoral college.
So, states like PA are important and has more of a say in how this country is run than the most populace and richest state in the USA. Voters in PA matter more than CA, even though CA voters contribute more to our overall first world status as US Americans.
Is it fair? Maybe not. Is it working? Well, if the USA was controlled by CA, our inflation would be just as bad as the EU post Covid. There’s something to be said for centrists. However, we’re all in debt and desperate when we get disease because we’re simps for corporate profit also.
Anyway, a mere 80k of ex-Obama voting “centrists” ushered in Trumpism… for us all to live through for decades.
