  1. They are talking about this as if they won it in a parish lotto draw.

They spent close to a hundred million to fight it, and now look at the state of them.
This country is fucked no matter how well we do.

Talk about it being spent before christmas hahaha

Yet I’m still living in a shitty share house (with a crazy landlord), in my mid 30s, earning above average wage?

I really don’t understand how they can give the tax payer back the paltry amount they are talking about. That’s alright slap in the face for tax payers in an election budget.

  4. Can we use some of it to train healthcare and allied healthcare professionals? Our education spending is terrible in general, seems like something we can fix

That’s the hotel’s housing asylum seekers sorted for about 12 years assuming nobody new shows up.

  6. Could we make the entire public sector redundant ,pay them off and then hire new public servants on remotely modern work contracts which would hold them to account for performance and easily P45 them when they screw up? Would do wonders for the inefficiencies in our health education agriculture OPW semi state etc etc …. easy blame politicians of any party but until civil servants get named ,held accountable and if needs be fired for waste ,inefficiency and incompetence this country will continue to waste billions ….

  7. Don’t worry they’ll squander it the same way they always do on short term giveaways with fuck all long term infrastructure to show for it at the end.

  8. Honestly, I know it’s the Irish way to make passive-aggressive comments and laugh at this while shaking our heads – but why can’t we as a people not just say fuck this, they need to use this surplus for something other than pissing it away on non-essential services, as in on things that we desperately need such as healthcare, housing or other serious matters? We moan, then roll over and accept it while getting dicked by FG or FF, or whenever the fuck is in power. It’s why I’ve left the country the past few years and have no intention on returning anytime soon.

  9. It’s absolutely hilarious the way they keep making out like it’s temporary

It’s literally a runaway train of tax receipts and they can’t do anything with it, tragic

  10. Spend it on reunification. The professional services class need a bit of competition from those based in Belfast.

Can we just bet that 24bn on dublin winning leinster , i mean even at 1-50 we’d still come out massive winners. And… im ashamed but im a culchie and i approve this messge.

  12. **A surplus is a bad thing! By [Sectoral Balances](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sectoral_balances) it (all else equal) straight up removes money from the private economy!**

We need to stop using Gold Standard era economic narratives – people are taught that economically-backwards things are the good/virtuous way to run the economy, and that really needs to stop.

Stephen Kinsella advises Simon Harris, and has at least some knowledge of all of this – so there’s really no excuse for this kind of backwards economic practice.

  13. So the government are raking in €24 billion in profit yet you need to pay 2 grand to get a child an autism assessment and pray that a school accepts them.

Fcking joke. This sort of thing is absolutely soul destroying for someone on low income and the government couldn’t give two fucks.
