Blinken says he expects Biden-Xi summit US Secretary of State Antony Blinken says he expects there will be a summit between US President Joe Biden and Chinese President Xi Jinping.

Blinken made the remark at a news conference after he held talks with Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi in New York on Friday on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly.

Blinken said he emphasized the importance of maintaining peace and stability across the Taiwan Strait. He also said that he raised concerns about China’s “dangerous and destabilizing actions” in the South China Sea.

Blinken said he expressed strong concern that China is providing Russia with materials that could be converted to military use even though Beijing says it wants to see the Russia-Ukraine conflict ended.

But Blinken said, “We also agreed on the importance of the leaders communicating.” He added that he fully anticipates that a meeting between Biden and Xi will take place “in the weeks and months ahead.”

The two countries are believed to work to arrange a summit on the sidelines of international conferences in South America in November, including the G20 summit.
