Social media platform X asks Brazil top court to lift ban, sources say Brazilian media say the social media company X has asked Brazil’s Supreme Court to authorize the use of the platform in the country again.

The media say representatives of X made the request on Thursday and have taken measures to comply with the top court’s orders.

The Supreme Court ordered the suspension of X on August 30, citing the company’s failure to comply with orders to block accounts accused of spreading disinformation. Access to the platform has since been shut in the country.

Elon Musk, the owner of X, initially took a critical stance toward the suspension, saying “Free speech is the bedrock of democracy.”

But Brazilian media say X has blocked some accounts and complied with all the other requirements from the court.

The suspension of X has sparked a major controversy in Brazil with opinions split against the backdrop of political divides in the country. Former President Jair Bolsonaro and his supporters have criticized the court’s decision.

Brazilians are waiting to see whether the court will reopen access to X in the country.
