As leaks on the space station worsen, there’s no clear plan to deal with them

  1. Thats quite a bit more serious than I knew.

People talk about the ISS probably getting quite a few life extensions because thats what always happens but if the station managers are already struggling to contain a structural problem 5 years ahead of the current decommissioning it becomes pretty difficult to justify the safety risk by 2039.

I doubt it would kill anyone since its known and accounted for but the last thing anyone needs is an international symbol of cooperation suffering a blow out in a section made by Russia and an uncontrolled spin.

  2. As bad as those are, this will provide research for further space stations that hopefully will be built soon. And with Starship, even a single piece station could do it for now, as it would not require connecting pressurized compartments together, and it would reduce amount of maintenance required on the station.

And bigger diameter of the cargo bay would allow for smaller torque forces on connecting segments of the station, allowing for much more solid connections, compared to the elastic and elongated structure of the ISS.
