In Major League Baseball, Ohtani Shohei of the Los Angeles Dodgers stole his 56th base, tying Suzuki Ichiro’s record for most steals in a season by a Japanese MLB player.
Ohtani’s record-tying steal from first to second base came in the 6th inning after his go-ahead RBI made the score 4-3 for the Dodgers in a game against the San Diego Padres on Wednesday. It was Ohtani’s first steal in two games.
Suzuki set the record in 2001 while playing for the Seattle Mariners.
The division-leading Dodgers went on to beat the second-place Padres 4-3 in Wednesday’s game. If the Dodgers beat the Padres on Thursday, they will clinch the division title for the third straight year.
