What utter nonsense is this from the pair of them? Donohoe can’t recall this but can say with certainty that “The Department of Public Expenditure told Newstalk “a call of this nature never took place.”” How can he say this if he can’t recall anything about it?
Then what on earth is the Tánaiste doing by saying the call did happen but it’s okay as it wasn’t a meeting? “”It wasn’t a meeting – my understanding from reports that I saw in The Ditch was [that it was] a phone call,” he said. “A phone call’s not a meeting and I think Paschal Donohoe can’t recall it.”” Who cares in the slightest if it was a meeting or a phone call, it still bloody happened according to you!
Then to top it all of Martin defends the government by explaining that all they did is exactly what the leaked emails said they were going to do to block the bill verbatim. What kind of response is this????

Why is The Department of Public Expenditure leaping to his defence when the phone call happened while he was working for The Department of Finance?

Interestingly, a DPE statement given to the Ditch this afternoon says the call didn’t happen, and we’re already at the “can’t recall” stage. Tomorrow evening we should get the “a call was made but we didn’t discuss the bill”, I estimate it will be as soon as the Six One news finishes or the papers print their first editions. Some time on Friday afternoon we’ll get a further admission that the bill was discussed but he stressed that he couldn’t influence anything, and that gets them into the weekend, cherished territory for any crisis management. The good thing is that the Ditch always, without fail, keep something up their sleeve that they release to contradict anybody stupid enough to open their mouth a second time.

Cannot recall.
Classic legal bullshit defense.
Cannot be accused of perjury because you’re not saying you did or did not do it.
You can’t ‘remember’

Well of course he can’t recall it, he didn’t record that it happened, which he should have done surely? If you are sparking in an official capacity with a minister of another country, how is that not recorded???

This is one of those “on mature recollection” moments. Utter nonsense and deceit.

The minister they paint as an attentive and professional yet he can’t remember a call he intentionally left off his diary.

Don’t worry lads, it will give them another boost in the polls because of the ‘’ahh sure it be grand’’ corrupt attitude in this country

Is now the right time to point out that “I can’t recall” is political-speak for : *”Yes, I absolutely did but no fucking way am I ever going to admit it. I can’t just say “no” though, in case the bastard on the other end of the line taped the call”.*
