This seems really fishy, asking me to send a copy of my bank card via post. I did a light amount of digging and I do know Intrum is a real company, though it seems they typically ask for money not offering to refund you. If anyone could tell me if this is a scam or not I’d be grateful.

  1. In general, such letters can be legit. But since you said you didn’t send them any money, it could be a scam or just a misunderstanding. Easiest and safest way: Call them tomorrow

  2. It is harder and harder to distinguish between scams and real things.

On this case I would contact Intrum just to make sure.

  3. Intrum’s a debt-collecting agency. They’re saying that they got money from you (CHF 72.30) but don’t know towards which debt that was supposed to go, so they want to refund you the money, unless they see you have other debts that they are allowed to collect on, then they’ll keep it. Either way, they will bill you for the additional administrative costs this gave them.

The bank card is just an option for them to get the necessary information for a refund, not a must. You can just fill out the lower half of the letter and send it back to them.

Either way, it seems legit, if maybe a bureaucratic error, since you’re confused about it. If in doubt, contact them and ask.

  4. Look in your e-banking or credit card/debit card statements if you have made such a payment.

But just know that companies like Intrum are absolute scumbags who make money from the misery and fear of people. They’ll probably end up billing you more than you paid them, lol.
