20K for GCSE revision? Entitled or what.

    Must be a joke.

Edit: Imagine if every family was given 20k for their children to revise for GCSE’s – no worries about where their next meal might come from, school clothing etc.

Would it work if I asked one of their donors for gifts? 🙁

“Can I pay for my child to get a private education without paying vat?”

No that would be unfair!!!! All kids should have equal opportunities, you shouldn’t have more because you have more money or better contacts.

Can a billionaire put my son up for a few months in a multi million pound property that costs more for a few weeks than most of the country earns in a year amd could never afford as it costs thousands of pounds a night while he does his gcses?

Absolutely! My child’s education is very important and he should have access to only the best.

    Thanks two tier Kier.

I am so done with politicians now. They can all get fucked, the whole corrupt money grabbing lot of em. Every single one of them are just self serving arseholes.

The French had the right idea on how to deal with the ruling class.

  4. His cover story doesn’t even make sense…

    Dates of the stay:

    > From 29th May 2024 to 13th July 2024.

    Dates of the GCSEs:

    > From 9th May 2024 to 19th June 2024.

He is coming across as more out of touch that Richie Rishi, which is saying something.
When you’ve taken away the winter fuel allowance from OAP and have promised the public more pain, any justification of free concerts, football matches, clothes etc is going to come across as tone deaf.
Where are the Lib Dems? They should be hammering Labour every chance they get.

A slightly charismatic Tory leader, untouched by sleazy, would be leading in the polls.
This is amateur stuff from Labour

Man, when I was revising for my gcses my mates girlfriend came round and gave me a blowjob. I’d have much preferred 20 grand.

  7. That’s not the headline, because that headline is misleading at best and more reasonably speaking untrue.

There was no donation of £20k. Either OP or the Standard changed the headline to include “acommodation”, which rather changes the meaning of the headline.

  8. I mean we’ve all done this, right?
Rich mates are always offering me money every time the kids have exams coming up.

  9. Same bloke who said he wouldn’t pay for an operation if somebody in his family needed one. 20k for GCSE revision is laughable.

I usually vote for the SNP but they’ve made an awful mess of themselves the past few years. Thought I’d chuck Labour a vote instead.

I’m a fucking idiot. Labour and the Tories are the same. The only way out for Scotland is independence. London corrupts. We need out this rotting union asap!

  11. It doesn’t sound as if someone payed him 20k to accommodate his kids. It sounds like someone offered his kids to stay at the property and if that property was rented out – it would cost 20k for that time.

I don’t see why he really should apologise

  12. Like apologising for Israel an entire decade before they nazify Europe lol

    “Suck my shit Starmer”

So many unforced errors and IMO the excuses are worse than the actual bribery (sorry, donations!)

  14. Its high time that politicians at all levels, councillors, devolved assemblies, most, Lords, all of them submit to expenses and gifts policies the same as their employees the civil service and councils. There is absolutely no reason for them not to do so.

This is not a political point, tories, SNP, plaid , all of them are at it. Its time to stop.

It would be great if just one honest MP made a private members bill to force this to a vote. We can all then write to our MPs and make it clear we are watching how they vote.

To be fair. £20,000 was not in cash but in-kind. Probably access to study space in a private school – that the school put on a rip off value 20k per year.

He wanted to help his son, I don’t blame him.

GSCEs are bloody easy! You don’t need £20k worth of separate space to pass drawing a circle…

I had high hopes for Labour after they were elected. And it seems like lobbying and corporate gifting are rife in politics regardless of what party is in power.

I do find it funny that there are so many headlines about this now given the Conservatives were exponentially worse in this regard and the media didn’t care much.

Keir Starmer defending these donations and gifts annoys me quite a lot though. It’s impossible to not be bias towards someone if you’re accepting gifts from them. It’s bribery no matter what way you look at it.

My wife(who isn’t a UK national) was impressed by the lack of corruption in the UK compared to her home country where most things can be resolved by paying a “fine”. I told her, the UK is more corrupt, it’s just hidden in plain sight.

Give it a few more years Kier and people will defend your free handouts , just need to make it to retirement age.

I always laughed when the choice in the US was Biden or Trump and thought how the hell did they get to that point.

It’s ironic that for us it was even worse, corrupt tories or a Tory in a red tie.

Nothing new will change for those at the bottom, business as usual with the government.

  19. I just wanted to check. Was the donation in cash or was the accommodation lent to them by the donor during that time?

As “Here is £20K for accommodation” is a bit different to “I have some accommodation I’m not using you can use it for a couple of months”

  20. This headline is utter bollocks. It’s the valuation of Starmer staying at Lord Ali’s house during the election for a month. Not a penny has actually changed hands.

  21. YesAmAThrowaway on

The fact that something like this is allowed to happen with any politician at all and is not legally considered a criminal infringement on democracy is what’s so sad to me. And so many places in the world are the same.

    Eat the rich!

  22. Disturbing how easily the media can twist things and then people believe what they read without question.

  23. So parents who struggle to pay private school fees (there are plenty of them despite the stereotypes) now have to fork up an extra 20% for the privilege of relieiving stress on the state sector.

Meanwhile Two Tier’s kid gets a 20k donation to help his education. What a massive hypocrite.

  24. ThatGuyMaulicious on

That government of service shit was dropped real quick wasn’t it. I learned with my teacher and other students at school what the fuck you spending £20k on?

  25. We are ruled not by the faces and colours of the parties.
We are ruled by the companies boasting record breaking profits through public crisis that lobby our governments.
We should start acting like we are aware of this information.
    Please.

  26. Very in touch with the public, I routinely receive 20k donations for my son to study. Most down to earth prime minister we’ve had.

  27. If I turned up for work and the customer started offering freebies I would say no I just want to do my job .
