Hey everyone,

So I grew up in (partly) Singapore and Bulgaria, with my divorced Bulgarian-Turkish mom.

My father is considered to be a Gypsy.

People have told me there are no ethnic "Turks" in Bulgaria, and my father his real homeland to me is unknown since I don’t talk to him or his side of the family since I was young.

Now I do wonder what the hell I am ethnically, I did an DNA test on Myheritage and these are the results + a picture of me.

Because people always ask me what I am and I just say IDK.

Is it true that my real homeland is India?

  1. You can be whatever you want. Especially in Bulgaria where you have all the gradients of colors.

I am from Italy but I learnt Bulgarian so well that I started to merge perfectly with the population. 😁

You look like an average Balkan guy. Gypsies were here from the era of Alexander the Great. Their origin is Indian but it was so long ago – they don’t consider them Indian and they don’t recognise India as their homeland.

Ако ти харесват свински пържоли и люто шкембе си българин.

Българските национални граници спират там където не знаят да правят шкембе!

Look, Bulgarian Turks are Turks who migrated to conquered Bulgaria during the Ottoman period. Some left after Zhivkov’s regime, and after his regime fell, some came back.
Gypsies come from India and Pakistan, they migrated during Alexander’s regime if i’m not mistaken. However, you don’t look Indian, i’m pretty sure your predominant gene is Bulgarian-Turkish.

  5. I don’t know who told you there are no ethnic Turks in Bulgaria, probably people who think that all Turks in Bulgaria are ex-Bulgarians who assimilated. In the first place, ethnic Turks can be quite a mixture, just like most other ethnicities.

There are some like that and female line in Turkish families but most Turks in Bulgaria were moved by the Ottoman empire into empty lands that wars and disease cleared from almost the entire population.

Additionally, in different periods the Ottomans had politics of mixing populations in strategic regions and moved people from other parts.

To be honest, you can pass for a Turk and even every other Balkan ethnicity but I definitely not see anything gypsy in you.

  7. You are Mr. United Nations, if aliens visit us, you will be selected to represent the planet. Be prepared!

  8. Bulgarian with darker skin. Put more garlic and spice into your shkembe and you’ll be one of us.

  9. You wouldn’t look out of place in Bulgaria and the surrounding countries, being either Roma, Turk or ethnic Bulgarian.

My heritage and similar services will never be able to tell you your ethnicity as this is a social, not genetic category. The only thing they can do is tell you how similar your genes look to samples from different populations which they have often grouped arbitrarily.

  10. >People have told me there are no ethnic “Turks” in Bulgaria

They told you wrong. We have every balkanic nation here plus some jewish people and some armenians…and of course roma. We are quite diverse actually.

  12. I bet my left nut if you haven’t said gypsy, 90% of people here would say you look like a Bulgarian/balkan and thats because you do
