Japanese diplomat meets Chinese official after death of Japanese school student A senior Japanese diplomat has held talks with a Chinese government official following last week’s fatal knife attack on a 10-year-old student of a Japanese school in the southern Chinese city of Shenzhen.

State Minister for Foreign Affairs Tsuge Yoshifumi met a senior official of China’s foreign ministry in Beijing on Monday.

During the meeting, Tsuge is believed to have asked for an explanation of the facts, including how and why the attack happened.

He is also thought to have called on China to prevent a recurrence and take thorough measures to ensure the safety of Japanese nationals.

Later in the day, Tsuge is scheduled to meet people from a Japanese school in Beijing and the Japanese Chamber of Commerce and Industry in China to exchange views.

Foreign Minister Kamikawa Yoko announced she will meet her Chinese counterpart Wang Yi during her visit to New York. She has expressed her intention to call for thorough safety measures in the wake of the attack.
