Ohtani hits 53rd homer, Darvish earns 2,000th strikeout in Major League Baseball Major League Baseball superstar Ohtani Shohei of the Los Angeles Dodgers has marked his 53rd homer and 55th stolen base of the season.

The Japanese player started as the leadoff designated hitter in Sunday’s game against the Colorado Rockies.

Mookie Betts followed suit with a back-to-back homer, giving the Dodgers a 6-5 win.

The most stolen bases in a season for a Japanese player is 56, recorded by Suzuki Ichiro in 2001, when he played for the Seattle Mariners.

Darvish Yu of the San Diego Padres has become the first Japanese pitcher in MLB and the 90th MLB pitcher to reach the 2,000th strikeout milestone.

Darvish struck out nine batters in Sunday’s game against the Chicago White Sox, bringing his total number of strikeouts to 2,003. This was Darvish’s 281st MLB game since he joined the league in 2012.
