The nation is set to hold by-elections in mid-October to elect a new superintendent of education for Seoul and heads of four regional public posts.
The “mini” by-elections set for October 16 will elect one superintendent of the Seoul Metropolitan Office of Education and four heads of the Geumjeong district in Busan, Ganghwa County in Incheon, Yeonggwang County and Gokseong County in South Jeolla Province.
The ruling and opposition parties are expected to make all-out efforts to win the elections as they are the first election since the launch of their new leaderships.
The interior ministry said on Monday that it will accept applications for voting by mail for the by-elections from Tuesday to Friday.
Those who want to vote by mail should send the applications by mail or submit them in person to the relevant city or district offices or their community centers by 6 p.m. Friday.
Candidate registration for the elections will open on Thursday for two days and the early voting will be held for two days from October 11.
