Japanese yakitori restaurant chain opens its first overseas eatery in Taiwan A major Japanese yakitori grilled chicken restaurant chain has opened its first overseas eatery in Taiwan, taking advantage of the popularity of Japanese food there.

The operator of Torikizoku, headquartered in Osaka, opened a yakitori restaurant in Taipei on Friday.

At the opening ceremony, Eternal Hospitality Group president Okura Tadashi said he hopes people in Taiwan will enjoy the new restaurant, as the company always tries to provide quality services at low prices.

All dishes and drinks at the new restaurant are priced at a flat 100 Taiwan dollars, or about 3 US dollars, targeting young people and women.

The company plans to open two more restaurants in Taiwan this year.

The Japan National Tourism Organization says more than 560,000 travelers from Taiwan visited Japan in August. The figure was up more than 40 percent from a year earlier and a record for August.

Some other Japanese restaurant chains have already opened shops in Taiwan amid fierce competition. They include conveyor-belt sushi chains Kura Sushi and Sushiro.
