Baby pygmy hippo in Thailand makes it big on internet A baby pygmy hippo in Thailand is turning into a viral internet sensation and drawing thousands of visitors to her zoo in the process.

The two-month-old hippo was born in July at the Khao Kheow Open Zoo outside of Bangkok.

Videos of her are racking up millions of views on social media. The zoo let fans choose her name in an online vote — Moo Deng, which roughly translates to “bouncing pig” in Thai.

Her internet fame is also helping business at the zoo. The number of visitors is now up to five times greater on weekdays and double on weekends.

But Moo Deng is learning that fame isn’t without its drawbacks. There have been several incidents of people throwing objects into her cage to wake her up. The zoo has installed security cameras and is calling on visitors to treat their resident celebrity with respect.
