Hello carpenters.
Normally, I usually have a pretty good grasp of what we have in and around Odense, but here I’m a bit at a loss. Although I know of two forests where I know where there are spruce trees and pine trees, but think that there must be more than just the two in Odense and the surrounding area. 🌲
One of my mates has asked me if we have forests with spruce or pine in Odense and the surrounding area. He wants to do something called Fatwoodso he can make a fire without difficulty, but it requires him to get to a forest with spruce or pine.
Here is a brief description of Fatwood: Fatwood is dead pine or spruce wood with large amounts of resin. It is flammable and smells like turpentine, effective in starting fires and can be ignited using fire steel. It is a natural alternative to kindling blocks, lighter fluid and whatever else you use to light a fire.
He has no car, so he must be able to get there by light rail/bus, but is happy to walk a few kilometers for it.
To get something in place, my friend must not out and cut down a whole tree or prune a tree. No, he just needs to use them died branches, stumps and roots from spruce or pine trees, which is also stated in the link that I have otherwise inserted.
You therefore often find large amounts of it in dead branches, in stumps and on the roots expired trees.
Resin/resin contains vegetable turpentine, which makes fatwood so good to light up with

First of all, it is resinous trees that you find your fatwood, i.e. pine trees.
Unless you are lucky enough to find a whole tree that has gone out, you can easily find fatwood by looking for died grene.
I look at the bottom of the trunk, where I often find branches that have been broken of, or which is gone outand in these ‘stumps’ there is plenty of resin/resin, and then you have your fatwood.

Wikipedia to all articles by Fatwood and their brief description reads as follows.
Fatwood is derived from the heartwood of pine trees. The stump (and tap root) that is left in the ground after a tree has fallen or has been cut is the primary source of fatwood, as the resin-impregnated heartwood becomes hard and rot-resistant after the tree has died.
