It’s one way of having a full hotel over the winter

In General, the state is the worst haggler in the world, they should be re negotiating with every operator and twisting the knife if possible.
Same with all rented office space given the increase in vacancy/wfh.

I can’t help but be cynical about the sudden benevolence of the hotel owners.
I guarantee you if it was the high point of the peak summer tourist season they would not be so generous!
But we are heading into winter, and the hotel sector will be in a very dead business period. Having the hotel full of migrants keeps all the staff paid for and makes the owners some money.

About time really, we owe it to the Ukrainians to show them proper hospitality

2 weeks notice for them is unfair, imo. They should be given 3-6 months to hopefully find alternative accommodation for themselves if they wish to stay in the area.

No hotels should house any immigrants end of story. A hotel should be used as a hotel.

They likely don’t want the alternative that they’ll be offered to replace them. Or, they worry about the local community not wanting the alternative.
Sorry but the idea that this hotel is acting out of pure benevolence is farcical.

Seen a few instances of this recently of Ukrainians being told they have to leave accommodation, what’s the government aiming to do here move them somewhere cheaper?

I have been looking at a 3 night mid week break in October for the last few months, didn’t book anything as the prices were crazy high, as in peak summer rates for mid week October.
I have noticed the last couple of weeks prices are coming significant down, lots of hotels doing 3 nights for 2 offers, including dinner, 20% off etc.
Looks like they are looking ar the winter booking rate and the fact that the government are looking for less space so are dropping rates.
It will be a hard winter for the hotels I reckon but they made their own bed with the crazy price inflation over the last couple of years – people are sick of it

Why does the Irish media not criticise this hotel policy more among other things, when the tories did it we heard nothing but how terrible they are, British exceptionalism etc. seems all very cozy among the top 10% of earners in Irish society. If we hear from others it’s just a caricature of a working class person, or a token voice so we don’t need to worry about hearing from anymore of them etc.

Causeway group who own this hotel have many other properties/hotels/pubs in Waterford.Theres been eyebrows raised as to how and where they have got the funding from.4 of 5 hotels in tramore are now housing refugees, the remaining one was asked to sell to the same owners of the hotels housing refugees. I’m not surprised the hotels are ‘concerned about refugees displacement’ One of the hotels,o sheas, was sold thus year for about 2 million and is closing soon for ‘refurbishment’ I’d be intrigued to know how much has been received the past 2 years by these ‘hotels’

The government should be the one dictating price not the other way around.
We’ll pay x amount per person, take it or leave it. If no, we’ll go down the road to the next hotel and on and on until someone takes the offer Vs a potentially empty hotel over Xmas months

Lets remember the people at fault here
– Work in the Kremlin
– Choose to sign contracts to fight in Ukraine
– Or support all of that from comfortable perches in the West
The Irish government, Hotel owners and displaced Ukranians are the ones picking up the pieces.
Vent your anger where it belongs -> with the Russians and their imperialist delusions.
