  1. There’ll undoubtedly be calls for us to fund the whole thing now with the Apple money. In theory I’d be fine with that if the majority of stadiums in our own jurisdiction weren’t crumbling dilapidated wrecks reminiscent of a third world failed state, but they are so…

  2. The partitionist mindset here is horrible. The north and plenty of the people in it are Irish too. Haven’t we suffered enough?

Just look at the Sean Browne case in the news today for an example.

If the Irish Govt had any balls and wanted to show even the slightest bit of solidarity with the Irish people long ago abandoned to the discriminatory whims of the UK state, they’d withdraw from the Euro 2028 bid entirely. No Casement, no Euro 2028 in the UK at all. Then watch as Whitehall miraculously finds that money from behind the sofa

  4. Politics aside as bad as inflation is 180m 6 years ago is not 400m today. They need to explain why the price has gone the way it is, first of all.

  5. Could the Irish government not provide the funding and take a stake in the stadium. So they get a certain % of all non GAA related activities? For 50 years

  6. Good. The redevelopment of Casement was going to be the only legacy of Ireland hosting the European Championship. A stadium for a different sport in a different country, farcical. All the while the Irish national team is an embarrassment and soccer clubs up and down the country are crying out for investment. Hopefully this money will now be used where it’s needed, let the GAA feather their own nest.

The Norns qualifying and having to play in Dublin will make their distaste for Casement seem mild.
