Tourists who fly into Dublin airport often make their way to visit Kerry or Galway or even day trip the cliffs in Clare.
Why couldn’t they just do it the other way around?
Americans see no issue driving for 2-3 hours each day. That’s a regular commute for some!

Theyd need to improve the shannon to dublin public transport then for the tourists

Minister recognises that airports exist in Ireland outside of Dublin.
Pat on the back time.

Absolute joke shop. Visit Dublin but you have to sit on a bus that may or may not show up, for a few hours before you get here.
By all means the other airports should be used if there is demand from the people who live closer to them than Dublin.
The fact is if Ryanair could fill a flight everyday to and from Shannon or Cork to any destination they fly to they would.
A lot of people living in this island Dublin is the easiest and quickest place to fly from.

A lot of Americans who come ot Ireland head to Kerry etc, arriving into Shannon is not the worst idea ever and could give a boost to the economy in the area

Spot on minister, too many tourists just see that <cough> called Dublin and never go out to see the real Ireland.

The good news is that public transport is great from Shannon to Dublin.
Oh.

Yeah we tried that for decades via the Shannon stopover. Didn’t work
Then won’t work now.

Can hardly get public transport from Dublin Airport into Dublin City Centre, never mind Shannon Airport.

How much capacity is there in Cork and Shannon. At the moment they have less than 5 million passengers a year combined. That’s tiny compared to Dublin’s 32 million capacity cap.
If Cork and Shannon grow passenger numbers by 20% they will be growing massively but it won’t take massive pressure off Dublin’s cap.

Shannon and Cork airports are an absolute dream to fly from…if you live in Munster (or Galway and other bordering counties). In the region of 1.5 million people.
Parking is cheaper than Dublin. No stupidity on the M50 to deal with. Security lines are a breeze.
Well, if the minister had bothered to ‘consider’ Shannon airport for the last ten to fifteen years, maybe they would know it existed.

Shannon’s grand…if you’re flying to or from New York, New England, old England, or a European sun holiday destination. Anywhere else, though…

As someone that flys home multiple times a year from the US to visit people in Limerick I can tell you the reason people aren’t flying into Shannon is because there aren’t enough flights. Flights to Dublin are cheaper by about 100 euro, more much frequent, and direct from far more destinations. If you’re travelling from Chicago there are options on certain days and there are options from New York and Boston. If you’re travelling from anywhere else in the US you’re shit out of luck and need to book some awkward layovers that can up to double your travel time.
I love Shannon and hate Dublin airport. I would exclusively fly to Shannon if that was an option.

I honestly don’t know why it isn’t talked about more. Especially with Michael O’Leary yelling on radio about Dublin Airport.

It’s just a shame that they don’t have the Internet in Europe and the US, and they need the Minister to tell them where the airport is.

Incredibly, in a country of fun, amiable people, Dublin airport managed to find the grouchiest to employ.

Kerry airport is without a doubt the best airport in the country. Absolutely love flying from there. Flights to Dublin, Faro, Alicante, London, Frankfurt and Manchester. If you’re late they’ll actually come to the security line with the manifest and fast track you through security. There’s even a train station closer to Kerry airport than there is to Dublin airport funnily enough

“International transport minister”. Sounds like a job they invented to give to a junior TD so they’d get more money.
They’re going to have to lift the cap eventually so they should just do it.
No point suggesting Shannon when only a limited number of flights fly from Shannon.

Shannon seems like a much more relaxed option. And its super close to some beautiful spots on the west coast if youre into exploring

Shannon airport- in the front door 30mins before flight and away you go. Dublin airport- 2 hours before flight, long queue in security, high prices for any food or drink in if you have time and then your flight prob gets delayed.

My last experience with Dublin airport was a disaster. I promised myself that in my life time I would never return to Dublin airport, so far I have kept that promise. It’s been 4 years.

The problem lies with capacity. Shannon is at about 2 million passengers and Cork 5 million ([but operating at 40% below this).](https://www.corkbeo.ie/news/cork-airport-40-below-max-29868310)
