  1. I wish I knew how to make the placebo effect work on myself! I have a bad hip (bursitis and a tear in the labrum that the doctor says is likely not causing pain despite it being directly in the spot where it hurts). I can’t take NSAIDS. I am diabetic so every time I go on steroids it’s a problem. I just so my endocrinologist so I can have a plan for getting my hip treated, but who knows how long that will take? I am crying it’s so bad. I understand they don’t give pain meds like they used to and am happy to use anything that makes the pain less. It’s such a horrible feeling.

  2. You neglected to mention that the placebo was a the size of an egg that couldn’t be taken orally.

  3. The lying effect. The patients know the whole thing is a joke so they give joke answers. It’s like those studies where they tried to scare people into brushing their teeth by showing them pictures of ppl with deformed jaws and no teeth. They were just joking when they said it would cause them to brush their teeth less but this turned the idea that causing too much fear could lessen compliance.
