    >The case was finally referred by the CCRC to the court of appeal in November 2022 on the grounds of “modern standards of fairness” and a change in expert opinion.

    I won’t even bother commenting on the ramifications given the state of this sub.

    The tl;dr is that, due to an intellectual disability caused by a childhood brain injury, he had a habit of just saying “yes” to people when questioned. So he admitted to the murder but outside police interviews he told a different story. He was also interrogated without a solicitor present, which should, especially given his IQ of 73, result in the confession being inadmissible.

  3. Yet under capital punishment this guy woulda been executed. This is why I’ll never support it. “it’s a deterrent” what by killing the wrong person?
