  1. So, out of curiosity, is this the death of the Vape Shops that have sprung up everywhere? If disposables are banned, and all flavours except tobacco are gone, thats the end of those businesses, right?

  2. If Northern Ireland doesn’t ban them too, there will be a healthy cross border trade. The UK is to ban them from April next year, but only applies to England, Scotland and Wales, so far.

  3. Great to see the disposable ones gone. They were an environmental disaster. But I don’t really agree with banning flavour of juice. That’s very odd and arbitrary.

I use a refillable vape. It costs me about a tenner a week. Compared to a disposable, which costs €7 and barely lasts a day, or 20 smokes which costs €16 a day.

But I like my pineapple flavour juice. So I’ll have to buy that online now? Rather than from the local shop? Will I even legally be allowed buy juice online now?

  4. Are flavours banned on just ones with nicotine?

I have a friend who gave up smoking using vapes (doesn’t use disposable one) but kept using the vapes. They don’t have nicotine in them.

  5. Fantastic news, but I can see a wave of cheap and dangerous ‘re-usable’ vapes that last a week about to become popular.

  6. Wish they’d have kept menthol flavour. I order from the North so should be good until they ban them too.

  7. Great news regarding the banning of reusable vapes but the ban on flavours is absolutely ridiculous.

Concerned politicians: ” We are doing this in the interest of public safety……. Cigarettes are grand tho, keep puffing away while we take the tax “

  9. By this logic they should ban flavoured alcohol to deter people too. Only allow the sale of raw alcohol

  10. The idea that any flavour that isn’t asscrack tobacco must be for children is fucking ridiculous. It’s going to be a pain in the tits to import all this stuff from UK or europe instead and it will kill Irish businesses. Just bloody ban kids from using them and ban the disposables if you’re suddenly pretending to care about the environment.

  11. Maybe the next new thing will be the return of proper, old style ‘tobacconists’, those tiny, cramped little specialist shops very often owned by widows historically, and whose (the shop’s) enticing and comforting aroma I can still summon up in my brain. Rich, woody, cherry, maybe a little vanilla or even patchouli, plus the scent of Gîtanes and Gauloises escaping their wrappings. All bona fide tobacco, where chaps in Viyella shirts and tweedy jackets would nip in for their usual and sometimes have a tester of some new blend for the pipe. (Good source of pipe cleaners in the days before you could get fancy hair curlers, to approximate a wild, hippie luxe look.) No *way* these would offer vanilla doughnut ‘n’ Mars Bar flavour capsules, or whatever you put in a vape device. 🧐

*ANYWAY*…..maybe some canny millionaire would create a chain of Olde Worlde ‘tobacconist’ kiosks for modern vapers, advising on flavours and stocking all manner of nifty paraphernalia in terms of the delivery thingies: remember Salvatore ‘Gomorrah’ Conte’s ubiquitous silver tube, which, he told his sceptical Mama, had its own little light! (In the not too distant future, DV, they might even stock very chi chi hookahs)

If these imaginary places also sold a few lines of regular fags (though stopping short of king size Rizlas) would that suffice, in terms of legal access, to prevent under 18s from entering the shops?

  12. > There are over 15,000 flavours. We know some of them are targeted at children. We know a lot of the colouring and the packaging is targeted at children … We want to say if you’re an adult, obviously, you’ll make your own decisions on this, but we want to make sure that we keep children safe.

But they’re still banning flavors for adults?

  13. Fully support the ban on disposable vapes.

The ban on flavours is just nonsense and unworkable.

First off adults also like sweet flavored things and shouldn’t be banned from accessing it because kids also like sweet flavored things. Are we going to ban any alcohol that isn’t straight vodka next or are the government trying to say vaping is somehow so much more dangerous than alcohol that the ban is only needed for vapes?

Secondly how will such legislation work? If flavoured nicotine products are banned that will stop small 20ml bottles from being sold but most adults aren’t buying them. They are buying 100ml bottles of vape juice with no nicotine. They then get a bottle of unflavored nicotine and add it themselves. What’s the plan? Ban flavorings used in cooking from sale?

The smart thing to do in my opinion is

    1. Ban disposable vapes.

    2. Plain packaging laws for vapes (and of we are being fair for alcohol too, alchopops and the like are very clearly aimed at a younger audience).

    3. Enforce laws on shops caught selling to those under 18.

Trying to stop adults from having something nice is just ridiculous especially when tabaco flavoured vapes taste so much worse than cigarettes. If that was all that existed when I quit I can tell you for a fact I’d still be on the cigarettes now.

  14. Great to see disposables gone but I’m not so sure about banning the flavours too. Yes, it might get some people off vaping, but it may also encourage others to smoke instead.
