    While Trump is literally praying they won’t release pics of his VP blowing a floor lamp.

    The media will guarantee he doesn’t blow it.  Anything short of him dying on stage due to a heart attack or something, he will be treated as the best thing since sliced bread

    This is what’s going to happen:

    He won’t answer a single question. He’ll just start attacking Harris and a bunch of other random people about completely irrelevant topics. He’ll go off on a bunch of nonsensical word salad rants. Harris will make a few minor and completely tame flubs, but the right wing media will latch onto them like she just smashed the Ten Commandments, and they’ll declare Trump the “winner” of the debate.

    What are they worried about? It’s not like their guy said or wrote

    > So there’s a shark 10 yards away from the boat…10 yards. Or here. Do I get electrocuted if the boat is sinking, water goes over the battery. The boat is sinking. Do I stay on top of the boat and get electrocuted, or do I jump over by the shark and not get electrocuted?

    > A question that probably some of you are thinking of if you’re totally into that world, which I find to be very interesting. So, supposedly we hit the body with a tremendous, whether it’s ultraviolet or just very powerful light, and I think you said that hasn’t been checked, but you’re going to test it. And then I said supposing you brought the light inside the body, which you can do either through the skin or in some other way. (To Bryan) And I think you said you’re going to test that, too. Sounds interesting, right? … And then I see the disinfectant, where it knocks it out in one minute. And is there a way we can do something like that, by injection inside or almost a cleaning, because you see it gets in the lungs and it does a tremendous number on the lungs, so it’d be interesting to check that, so that you’re going to have to use medical doctors with, but it sounds interesting to me. So, we’ll see, but the whole concept of the light, the way it kills it in one minute. That’s pretty powerful.

I have this beautiful, luxuriant hair, and I put stuff on. I put it in. Lather. I like lots of lather because I like it to come out extremely dry because it seems to be slightly thicker that way. And I lather up and then you turn on this crazy shower and the thing drip, drip, and you say, ‘I’m gonna be here for 45 minutes. What?’ They put restrictors and they put them on in places like here where there’s so much water you don’t know what to do with it. You know, it’s called rain. It rains a lot in certain places. But, now their idea, you know, did you see the other day? They just, I opened it up and they closed it again. I opened it, they close it, washing machines to wash your dishes. There is a problem. They don’t want you to have any water. They want no water.

    You mean to tell me saying stupid shit that may result in him blowing the debate?

  5. He’s going to completely blow it. He’s shown time and again over the last year that he has, through every fault of his own, painted himself into a corner where there are no right moves for him to expand his electoral appeal.

    If he says something that’s not fascists or even center right his based loses it on him.

    If he says something fascists everyone else remembers how much and why they hate him.

    He’s also in serious physical and mental decline, and can’t string two sentences together that make any sense to anyone who is not already a member of his cult of followers who are deluded idiots that can make his gibberish mean anything they want.

    Fascism is a self defeating philosophy and his campaign is transparently fascist and in its terminal phase.

  6. The bar is extremely low for him. The only way he can blow the debate in the eyes of those who are leaning towards voting for him is if he collapses or pulls down his pants and defecates live on stage and even then it may not move the needle much.

  7. inbetween-genders on

    Meh who knows. We will see. I think auntie K will wipe the floor with him but I’ll wait until it’s done and done to celebrate cause last time I thought Joey Two Scoops was gonna mop the floor with him but Dark Brandon never showed up 🙁

  8. Donald is a true idiot, but that’s his armor, sadly. There’s nothing he can really do to upset the cult enough to not vote for him. They’re pretty irrational.

    The real question is how much will he struggle or succeed at gaining votes? I think he’s at his ceiling and will remain there, but I could be wrong.

    I don’t know because I’m not in the mindset of wavering on my vote or my participation in voting…but I guess there’s enough people out there that are still unsure about what they’re gonna do?

    The other side of this is that in the debate Harris might not come off looking great. She has a high bar to clear because she’s a real person with skills and intelligence. Trump has a low bar because he’s divorced from reality and functionally stupid. So it’s really kind of Harris’ debate to lose, unfortunately.

    Which is the main thing to me. Neither will exactly “win” in this political landscape, but one might certainly “lose” –if that make sense.

  9. Thoughts and prayers seems to be about the only thing Republicans can provide for *anything* lately

  10. whatzitsgalore on

    My gut reaction is that it’s going to go how we all think it will. Trump will be exactly the same as he was in the June debate. Harris will talk 70% about policy, 30% about what Trump is all about since he can’t articulate any of it himself. Framed exactly like that: “Since Donald couldn’t articulate an answer, let me translate…” And he won’t have an open mic to sputter into. If she does it every time, she’s making fun of his greatest weakness to his face.

    I think what changes is pundit reaction. Even though Trump is exactly the same, all of a sudden he’s the low hanging fruit. It’s easier to pile on with Harris and make fun of non-answers and hyperbole than discuss whether her proposed change in the marginal tax rate for corporations will increase revenues.

    It’s so unfortunate that we live and die by soundbites but Harris comes in with the stronger position here. Trump hasn’t been able to define her at all.

  11. But why are there still people willing to work for this man? I would rather go flip burgers than to be associated with his campaign. Why?

  12. Harris’ team has surely studied techniques which send Trump into a ditch. Do it early and often. Once in a ditch he can’t recover and will go louder and longer with cries for fear and violence

  13. JeffSpicolisBong on

    Kamala will need to convey her vision and also lay a clowning on Trump via some headline grabbing burns that are irresistible to the media-sphere. She knows they’ll give Trump a pass so she has to nail him and give him the beatdown we all wanna see.

  14. Basic_Quantity_9430 on

    Harris needs to be 100% on her game. The Press is going to grade Trump on a big favorable curve. If Trump avoids being a complete moron and avoids shitting his pants on stage, the Press will claim that he won.

  15. BrokenMilkGlass on

    I think the risk is on the other side. He can just spew his normal verbal crap, and people say “that’s just Trump,” whereas Kamala needs to be perfect to not be attacked in the public discourse.

  16. Proper-Toe7170 on

    I understand the view of people being pessimistic that this debate will do much. But don’t forget we are coming off the back of arguably the most consequential debate in US history. While Trump has always been unhinged, he has notably lost what little sharpness and coherence he had since 2020, 2016. Most people plugged into this stuff have seen this, but a lot of people who do not plug in give presidential debates a lot of attention and weight. Trump having a jarring senior moment or meltdown is in the realm of possibility and, if severe enough, could not be effectively spun by the media.

  17. They can stop praying. Short of stroking out on the stage or physically assaulting someone (and even that might not to do it) the press will say he won or it was a draw.

    Given his behavior lately and his spiralling lack of coherence, no wonder why they are so desperate for him not to blow it.

    Interesting that his team has no confidence in his abilities whatsoever…

    Like she said she knows his type. Flimflam, talk talk talk and makes no sense but it’s like ASMR for his mob and nails on a blackboard for the rest of us.

  21. Reddituser45005 on

    Trump was horrible in the Biden debate but it got very little attention because Biden was worse. That began the serious push to get Joe to step aside. To me, it isn’t about Kamala winning, it’s about Trump being so incoherent that even his MAGA supporters realize he is finished. To avoid the “civil war” scenario that would occur in a close or contested election, even MAGA has to realize Trump isn’t electable. Trump snd Vance are doing a great job of destroying themselves. Kamala just has to let them continue

  22. The debate is basically 2 people who will be speaking to the audience similar to a rally. The 2 candidates will not engage in any meaningful dialogue that will clarify positions on the issues. It is a waste of time. I am glad that Kamala has remained quiet on policy positions to date as that gives Trump less ammunition and areas to meander, obfuscate and conflate. The debate will be nothing more than a lousy soap opera. Let Trump talk- the more he talks the more people are disgusted (beyond his base). He cannot win with his base alone.

  23. >“She’ll be personal and try to demean him,” Gingrich told *Politico*. “I think, I hope, what he’ll do is be a guy who’s been a real president—while she has been kind of a semi-vice president—and a guy who knows all the world leaders, and a guy who has been through an enormous amount, and just be calm and steady and stick to the real differences.”

    So the hope is that at long last, Trump does a pivot and acts presidential.

    Dear god, that’s funny. I understand why they’re praying.

  24. There’s an absolute ZERO percent chance that he isn’t going to look like a complete jackass.

  25. What is your plan to improve childcare?

    Trump: Look, that’s so so important, so we’ll tax the windmills from china, because tariffs are big big money and the green new deal causes toilets to flush 10, 20, 50 times and that’s why the water is so bad now, but the water was so beautiful, the best water you’ve ever seen when I was running things, but now you’ve got bad bad people trying to steal your guns and gas ovens, but when I was in charge big men came up to me with tears in their eyes and said “Sir, thank you for being there for the children!” And that’s my plan, we’ll make America Great Again.

    Kamala: (Insert reasonable, thoughtful plan, throws a joke in for brevity).

    Media: Wow. That was terrible. Harris smiled too wide and laughed too hard, and that’s really a turn off for the American people on a serious subject like child care. Also Trump lied I guess, but this could be a real problem for Harris.

  26. I want to hear Harris use the following phrases:

    * Convicted felon
    * Adjudicated rapist
    * Insurrection

    The problem is, all Donald has to do is be his normal unhinged, hysterical, interrupting, lying self and not use the n word or have a medical emergency on tv and it’s a victory for him.
