Worst possible outcome for Trump: Why Trump’s sentencing delay may make ‘confinement’ more likely

  1. If he loses in November, there’s no need to go easy on him. With no chance of another presidential campaign, his followers will start abandoning the decrepit two-time loser in droves, so if he finally goes to jail for his countless crimes, it’ll only give them another excuse to drop him even faster.

As frustrating as all the delays have been, I really believe this will work out for the best. I don’t think the judge will feel nearly as constrained in sentencing Trump appropriately. The negative is, if there’s any way this demon gets re-elected, then *poof*, it all goes away.

Also, it takes away his ability to act like a whiny victim and martyr during the campaign.

Once the election is over and he loses, he won’t have the presidential argument as a reason to stay out of prison

  5. I agree that delaying Trump’s sentencing increases his chances for confinement, which is why I was happy to hear about this decision.

I’d say it’s one of those be careful what you wish for scenarios.

After being shot and nearly killed, Trump was afforded grace from his opponents, because violence has no
    place in politics.

He now mocks Paul Pelosi for being attacked with a hammer.

So I am glad he has dementia. I hope he gets it good and hard. Yet I worry that it will prevent his timely and well-deserved imprisonment.

    Lock him up soon, please!

  7. More people would probably come out to vote knowing a defeat would mean jail time for this convict. Lock him up.

He’s a fucking idiot. Had he not stonewalled and delayed, he’d probably have gotten fines and probation. He’s betting everything on becoming president. And if (and hopefully when) he loses, I imagine he’ll have books thrown at him from every side.

  9. I also suspect that this is the case. If Trump wins the election, he’s going to get away with everything regardless. If Trump loses then the justice system will grind on as normal.

The danger is that the justice system gets ahead of itself and offers an excuse for Trump to run to the supreme Court. He will, of course, and the crooked partisan hacks he installed there will do his dirty work.

If the sentencing happens after Trump loses the election, he also loses his ability to control the politics of it all.

This is exactly what I was trying to say in another thread shortly after the continuance was announced.

If anything, the delay signals to me that the judge is planning to impose a sentence that includes at least some term of incarceration. Doing so before the election could actually impact the outcome because Trump will use it to play victim, and his supporters will eat it up. It would also substantially increase the likelihood of political violence.

I’m absolutely more convinced Trump is going to prison now than I was before this ruling.

  11. It looks like his legal team might actually be working against him. Maybe they need some quiet time while Trump is incarcerated

Here we go again. I’m sorry but I think most folks here are absolutely kidding themselves if you think a former potus is getting reprimanded, let alone confinement. I would bet dollars to doughnuts Merchan throws out the sentencing entirely, in light of the supreme court ruling. Seriously though, how many times are folks going to watch the court system give trump whatever he wants and then turn around and say, ‘oh no this time will be different’

  13. Remember… if he wins (or gets installed) all his convictions go away. If you’d like to see accountability for criminal actions… Vote blue all the way down the ballot.

Why is it inconceivable that he should suffer any consequences when he keeps poking the rule of law in the eye and pushing (and overstepping) legal boundaries?

  15. If he loses he will get about 1 weeks of maga shouting for his innocent and then they will get board and trump will be alone to face the music.

Trump thinks he has an amazing army but he just has some low intelligence people who will get board and walk away

  16. Racoonaissance on

Uh.. even if he wins the election (which I hope he won’t), he still wouldn’t be president until January. So he could be sentenced, just the same as anybody else. Right?

  17. It seems to me that when a convict shows remorse that is viewed favorably come sentencing time. He has expressed no remorse. He has not apologized. I wonder how much that will factor in his sentence?

  18. Of course. As Loser of the 2024 Presidential Election justice will be served. Probably home confinement.

  19. Totally agree with this take. Merchan is taking away, even the appearance of politics in his decision. Trump can’t claim it impacted the election when it happens after the election. He totally plans for prison time. Trump will still have his followers, but he won’t be holding any rallies to fire them up from a prison cell, which makes it exponentially more difficult for him to create chaos over his loss of the election.

  20. GDPisnotsustainable on

Where will his airplane be on Nov 5 and 6th? He is gonna make a break for a country without extradition.

  21. Nothing will happen to Trump, especially if he wins. Judge Merchan is a fucking joke. I don’t need to hear excuses. NOTHING will happen. On the fucking longshot that he gets sentenced at the end of November, I don’t expect anything more than a slap on the wrist from Merchan. Merchant is scared out of his mind. Trump is a moron, but Jesus Fucking Christ, does he know how to work the legal system. Guilty on 34 fucking counts, and he gets nothing, when people are rotting in prison for getting caught with weed. What a joke our justice system is. If you’re poor or middle class, straight to jail; if you’re rich, drinks by the pool. Fuck Trump.

  22. Boring_Philosophy160 on

So what happens if it’s really close and on the latest sentencing day, it’s still being decided? Another delay?

  23. YouWereBrained on

This is why Judge Merchan did it. If Trump loses, he will have more leverage to jail him.

  24. Think_Profit4911 on

I’ve heard that all the hamberders and coveffe are going to catch up with him and he won’t even make it to the election
