Loyal is enrolling for its trial in dozens of vet clinics across the US and is sufficiently powered/controlled for FDA veterinary review. Scroll down to the map: [https://loyal.com/clinical-trials](https://loyal.com/clinical-trials)

Cells enter a state of repair and maintenance when calories are scarce, which is part of evolutionary survival during times of famine. Calorie restriction mimetics imitate the beneficial effects of reduced caloric intake without starvation. This reliably increases healthy lifespan in [mice](https://www.jax.org/research-and-faculty/research-labs/the-harrison-lab/gerontology/rapamycin-study). Effects may be more dramatic in mice, which are naturally more short-lived, but that’s the purpose of the trial: to determine the effect in dogs.

The goal is to prevent senior health problems, such as arthritis, organ failure, canine dementia, etc., and any increase in lifespan would be a side effect of retaining health.
