Sharp to enter EV market Major electronics manufacturer Sharp announced its plan to enter the EV market within several years. The new EV concept model will be unveiled at its two-day tech event in Tokyo from September 17.

The model is a mini-van based on technologies that Sharp has gained in manufacturing LCD panels and home appliances.

The vehicle is equipped with a large rear display screen and AI-assisted electronic devices.

The company said on Friday that it will jointly develop EV models with its parent company, Hon Hai Precision Industry of Taiwan.

Sharp plans to use Hon Hai’s EV platform to design new EV models, and begin selling them in several years.
Sharp’s Chief Technical Officer Taneya Mototaka said he believes electric vehicles can further evolve as the world moves toward a carbon-free society.

He said Sharp’s goal is to offer more convenience to its customers based on its past experience manufacturing products that consumers use every day.
