For comparison, net favourability 2 months after an election/leadership election:
David Cameron (2010): +31
Theresa May: -27
Boris Johnson: -7
Liz Truss: out of office, or -70
Rishi Sunak: -26
Keir Starmer: -21

Is this surprising? He was elected on the lowest level of electoral participation since the introduction of universal suffrage – his “landslide” was built on mass apathy, disengagement and disgust with the ruling regime, and since he’s assumed office, he’s made it clear he’ll govern like the type of charmless technocrat the IMF used to force upon countries to oversee a package of austerity in return for a bailout. He’s destined to be the most hated PM in British history, and that will be the sum total of his achievements.

Not really a surprise, people want shit to change, it was never going to happen quickly but it doesn’t make people feel any better. He’s got time, if in a couple years times people do feel that there has been positive change then I can imagine he gets a 2nd term, if not, hung parliament here we come!

It’s going to take a lot longer than [checks notes] 2 days of Parliament being back to undo 14 years of distrust in government.

This is what happens when a party gets in because the alternative was that bad they were simply unelectable, not because they were an extremely good opposition party.
Was always going to be a shit show this Labour in, no idea why anyone expected any different

So? The right were always going to be out to get him. He has a beast of a majority and can focus on getting on with the job. It is about time politics got boring again; far too much Tory soap opera over the last decade.

Next election is going to be interesting.
Tories are completely stuck on what direction of the party they want to choose. Arguably they should chase right-wing votes if they want to win the election but these people probably aren’t coming back to the Tories after the Tories repeatedly increased and broke promises on immigration. So then do they pursue the centre and try to get back votes from Lib Dems? Issue of course is that there just isn’t that many seats there.
At the same time, Reform have clearly set the ground to pursue seats in prototypical Labour votes in the North East, Welsh Valleys and Lancashire (historic county). This would be fine most years, but Labour are attempting to hold a coalition of traditional working class groups in these exact areas, with neoliberal capitalists and progressives from London who picket and protest against the social and economic views of the same working class who vote for the same party. And Labour show no promise of attempting to placate these people’s views on immigration. So it seems likely that Reform will be successful in these areas, particularly if they can convince Conservative voters in these constituencies to tactically vote against Labour. 100 seats? It’s a genuine possibility.
This is all going to push the UK closer to coalition government, with Labour or the Conservatives possibly having to choose whether or not they want to form a government with each other, as traditional parties towards the centre have done in Ireland, or form a government with Reform.

Starting to think running about shouting “things will only get worse” whilst it seems like the cronies parachuted in turn out to be a bit grotty might not be a vote winner idk.
Like yes they’ve been on break but that’s not stopped rayner going on a big tour of yelling “look we think your stupid enough to belive the only thing to save this country is keeping your nan cold this winter”

Who would have thought pissing off millions of pensioners and worrying the rest of the country about tax rises and painful budgets would dent Starmer’s favourability. I originally thought he would get two terms due to how bad the Tories lost the election but I’m more and more convinced that Labour will be a one term government. It will come down to whether Reform split the rightwing vote again or whether they come up with some kind of deal.

Honeymoon lasted until the Euros final. Since then it’s been silly season for stupid ‘scandals’ and problems (how is Rayner doing a bit of DJ-ing while on holiday a scandal? Specially as Chief Raver Gove approved of it)

IMO this is more a reflection on the public’s unrealistic expectation for instant change rather than the governments performance. Meaningful change takes time.

Not surprised, Starmer didn’t win this election, the Tories simply lost it, there was and still is no enthusiasm for Starmer, this will never be a Blair moment for him.
His “landslide win” had far fewer votes than their loss in 1935 where the Tories in that year won a massive landslide victory.
He’s a one term PM at best

Yeh any chance the media could focus on the actual issues? We all knew Labour were inheriting a shit show. They don’t have a magic wand and if they handed everyone in the country a million quid they’d still be castigated for it.
Older readers may remember the media circus over the Blair / Brown rivalry. Or John Major’s affair. Or Cameron dominating Clegg. Or more recently the endless tale of Boris. And you know what? None of that matters. What matters is healthcare, housing, the economy, climate change, education. Not how popular or otherwise the current PM is.
Government is about running stuff. It isn’t or at least shouldn’t be a popularity contest. Let them (Keir is just the figurehead) get on with it and hopefully things will get better.

The entire campaign was built on the word ‘change’. They never clarified what that meant. For those of you who’ve only ever known a conservative government you’re going to learn in the next few years is that politicians are all the same and very little changes between the parties.
