They just delayed the sentencing until his mum gets back.

Goes a long way to explaining why the kid turned out this way. Never really stood a chance in life with parents like this.

So, we k ow she’s neglecting the kid, we know he’s already on a bad path. What do we do? Nothing. Just have to wait the inevitable amount of time before he racks up his hundredth conviction.

Hoping they don’t punish the boy further because of the parent’s actions. I understand the criminal age of responsibility is 10 but I think parents should be held partially responsible for the kids actions here, with the kid having some kind of intervention programme.

Great parenting there. I wonder why this lad is such a problem?

I really hope the mother can and will be held at least partially responsible. The lack of care and attention she devoted to her son here is clear as day. We’re talking about a 12 year old child, a boy who is not even old enough to be called a teenage, a literal child and she left him to go to court with someone else because of a holiday.

Is sending a 12-year-old to prison for taking part in a riot really the right way forward here, given the child’s home life? I know there is a strong desire to punish everyone involved heavily, but what is this actually going to achieve?
Do the parents for neglect, help the kid.

Yeah kids tend to behave like this when their parents don’t give a shit about them. The kind of child that is unsupervised and neglected is exactly the kind of child these nutjobs look for to recruit, far right political parties have been on about getting the youth vote for the last year, and the whole country ignores the grooming aspect because politics.
Imagine leaving a 12 year old to attend court without you, I hope they actually take a look at the bigger picture with this boy, because if his shitty parents will go on holiday while he’s in court, can you imagine the neglect he’s already had? Are they going to actually investigate how this kid came to be surrounded by these kind of people?
Honestly this country makes me sick to my core, even if they took this kid into the system, he’d only end up being more neglected and unsafe because of the absolute state of the care system.
I hope he gets the help he needs before he turns 16 and wash their hands if responsibility for him.

Where’s his father? I take it she’s a single parent because the Judge made no mention of him.

Seriously, what a total dereliction of duty as a parent.

I know the kid is over the age of criminal responsibility but should we really be ‘sentencing’ a 12 year old?
