For months now the telegraph has been writing on and on about anti-Semitism
But now the government is putting a zero tolerance policy on it they’re opposing that too
What do they actually want, or are they just contrarian

So if I understand this correctly, what the Home Office wants to do is to record incidents of people saying that they have been racially abused, regardless of whether what the perpetuator did is actually racist. Wouldn’t that just be highly politicised and abused? What if someone thinks waving a Palestinian flag is antisemitic, or waving an Israeli flag is Islamophobic? Are the alleged perpetuator going to be recorded by the police? This is completely unworkable and is 100% open to abuse.

Whether you agree with the bill or not you should see this as a good thing. We are seeing the executive scrutinised which I feel is something the Tories lacked. This in theory should make legislation better.

No excuse for hate crime, regardless of how you feel about other groups. Freedom of speech does not mean you have the right to make others feel less about themselves or fear for their safety at the same time.

Freedom of speech is not the same as freedom to incite hate, nor freedom to slander

Free speech isn’t free from consequences. If that free speech is hate you should also be prepared to face those consequences

Why do we always appoint authoritarian assholes to the Home Secretary position?

Labour doing a speedrun of “how can we be worse than the Tories”. Can’t believe it’s only been 8 weeks.

The strengthening of hate crime laws includes making hate related to disability and aggravating factor. Currently it isn’t treated as one, which implies that disability hate crime isn’t as serious as other hate crimes or that it’s more acceptable. It needs to be treated equally to race related hate crimes.
