If anything shows you how hollowed out politics is, there you go. Just get some well known faces to run for public office and treat the public like mugs

Desperate for votes is what this is. Fianna Fail gonna get destroyed in the next election.

It just shows how hollowed FF has become. It is a zombie party and no longer the national movement it proclaimed itself as. There is an interesting history to be written about this. It wasn’t just the economic crash, FF were on life support through the Bertie years.

Just shows how much politicians think of the general public .. basically like sheep or moths put something shiny and bright in front of us and we will follow ..
But sure given who we have elected over the last number of years ( repeatedly) can’t really blame them .. esp when some rte has been gets elected next time ..

I’d vote for Viper Higgins.

What a fucking cretin. The real tragedy is the country is full of fools that makes this a viable plan.

They saw how Maria Walsh got elected and wanted to copy the template. Maria Walsh had never espoused a political opinion publicly in her life. She didn’t even espouse an opinion in her election campaign, she posted some shite about Tamogochi’s. Her election was one of the most depressing things I have seen in Irish politics.
The reality is nobody needs to have a political opinion, in fact it’s better if they don’t. All they have to do is vote with the party and trot off the lines that they were told to say.

Like it or not, the media / social media / PR presentation is a key part of the role, so getting people in who you know are already media trained, will present professionally on camera, and stay on message is a smart shortcut.

This was immediately evident when they put the Brazilian guy who saved the girl during the stabbing incident on the ballot for local election

Kinda proves what I already suspected about politics: you don’t need to be intelligent, shrewd, sinfully aware or even talented to do it – you just need charisma.

Jockey Nina Carberry and the Rose of Tralee Maria Walsh performed phenomenonally in the European elections.
However, Finna Fáil seem to have less luck with celebrity candidates. Caio Benicio ran for council with FF this year and didn’t get in.
