The third day of the Paralympic Games is behind us. Another day of good performances by Poles, or at least that’s what I heard (screenshot taken while observing the text coverage of the Poles’ match for advancement to the final).

First, I presented the basic information about what happened tonight and this morning in relation to athletics in the post about yesterday. Link in the table with medals for the day (the one from 30.08).

I hope that no one listened to my first proposal and bought the Polsat Box Go package just to watch the Paralympics. I mean, the competitions, plus or minus, you’ll see, but Poles are only a miracle (read, during swimming competitions and running competitions in athletics, because the international broadcast is in the small intestine, because it’s definitely too shallow to give a damn). If you’re going to spend money on anything, spend it on VPN and then look for some better sources (the French equivalent of TVP might be a good start, but I think the British have something good too. And apparently there were supposed to be streams on YouTube of the official Paralympic Games profile, but they either don’t exist or they don’t show in Poland). In addition, I have a second hope that Polsat’s exclusive rights are an exception for this year and Milan-Cortina 2026 will be shown too somewhere else.

… I just saw a self-advertisement from Polsat Sport, "only here, Paralympic Games with performances by Poles". Well, not really.. Although, to be fair, they showed us all our gold medals, and that statement is true for the wrong reason.

(comment at the end of writing the post, when everything is over) The fact that this day started makes it hard to say that today was the best day of both types of Games this year (because if we insist, in theory we end up with zero in terms of gold medals). But leaving aside the issue with Róża, today was one of the best days in the last month – gold, two bronzes (although it must be admitted that NO gained after the victory), advancement to the final and several promotions from groups. And since several "toning" events, such have always been and today is no exception in this matter. The only negative thing is once again the attitude of Polsat, where today you could only see our swimmers. And to the list of ironies you can add the program summarizing today, which talks about the performance of Poles in Boccia and about popularizing and promoting it, AT THE SAME MOMENT when a Pole plays in the quarterfinals and Polsat does not show it.

We have the first official multi-medal winners – Kamil Otowski with double gold and Karolina Pęk with double bronze. Tomorrow we will be able to add the first one to this list. "mixed" multiple medalist, because Piotr Grudzień will add a medal from the men’s doubles final to his bronze from the mixed doubles.

Poles’ results from today (31.08.)

Paraswimming

50 meters backstroke, men, category S1:

• Kamil Otowski 🥇:
  • final: 1. place.

Firstly, as bad as this may sound when you look at what it means, it’s a good thing there are enough swimmers in the S1 backstroke category to be able to hold the competition, otherwise the swimmers in that category would be lumped into S2 (like the one and only S1 swimmer, I think).

Secondly, it’s nice to be able to add gold medals to these files "live".

50 meters backstroke, men, Category S2:

• Jacek Czech:
  • eliminations: 4th place;
  • final: 4. place.

Unfortunately, just as Kamil took 1st place twice, Mr. Jacek took 4th place twice in the 50 and 100 meters backstroke, which "what’s worse" he can add to the three-fourth place he won in London (2) and Tokyo (1). At least he managed to win medals at the world championships, because whether he will compete in Los Angeles (where he will be 52 years old) only Jacek will know.

And finally, an interesting fact: Czech and Otowski will face off in a direct duel at these games (if both start). They both entered/qualified for the 200m freestyle (which is indeed a freestyle and I suspect both gentlemen will swim as they would in the backstroke), but since Kamil is the only S1 swimmer to do so, he was included in the S2 category.

Para-table tennis

3 semi-finals, 3 certain bronze medals (the losers of both semi-finals get them), with a chance to improve their color by advancing to the final…

Doubles tournament, mixed, category XD17 (maximum sum of categories: 17, categories: TT6-TT10):

• Karolina Pęk (TT9), Piotr Grudzień (TT8) 🥉:
  • semi-final: 2:3 (4:11, 5:11, 11:8, 11:9, 8:11): rivals: Xiong Guiyan (TT9), Peng Weinan (TT8) (China).

… during this match Polsat had no coverage of para table tennis at all…

Women’s Doubles Tournament, WD20 Category (maximum sum of categories: 20, categories: TT6-TT10):

• Natalia Partyka (TT10), Karolina Pęk (TT9) 🥉:
  • semi-final: 0:3 (7:11, 6:11, 4:11), rywalki: Tian Shiau Wen (TT10), Lin Tzu Yu (TT10) (Tajwan).

… during this match Polsat showed table tennis, but the international signal showed the French match on XD7…

Men’s Doubles Tournament, MD18 Category (maximum total of categories: 18, categories: TT6-TT10):

• Patryk Chojnowski (TT10), Piotr Grudzień (TT8) 🏅:
  • semi-final: 3:1 (15:13, 8:11, 11:8, 11:7), rivals: Lian Hao (TT10), Zhao Shuai (TT8) (China).

… and during this match Polsat showed this table from the beginning of the text.

And no, I’m not kidding around like that "it was only for a moment". No… they showed that table for OVER HALF AN HOUR. I was afraid the image was frozen, but then someone walked by in the background.

Para-archery

Compound bow, single, women, category open:

The competitors fire 15 shots in 5 series of 3 shots. The one who scores the most points wins the duel. In the event of a tie, there is a Robin Hood-style play-off, whoever hits closer to the center (here, however, the competitors aim at different targets) wins.

• Ksenia Markitantsova (W2):
  • 1/8 finals: 141:142, rival: Jodie Grinham (ST) (Great Britain).

The duel was tied before the last series of shots. The Polish representative shot brilliantly, gaining 29 points, but the British representative had a perfect round (30 points) and won the entire duel.

And here’s an interesting fact: the British woman is 7 months pregnant and has just won a bronze medal. I’ll be a little disappointed if the baby’s name isn’t something related to bronze.

Parabadminton

Men’s Singles Tournament category SU5:

In the group stage, 8 players divided into two groups of four compete to advance to the semi-finals from the top two places.

• Bartholomew Mroz:
  • 3rd match: 1:2, (21:15, 19:21, 14:21), rival: Meril Loquette (France);
  • Group stage: **4th place in the group.

Women’s Singles Tournament category SH6:

In the group stage, 11 players are starting, divided into 3 groups (two of 4 players, one of 3 – the Pole went to the last one). The two best players in each group advance: 2 directly to the semi-finals (I don’t know on what basis), and the remaining 4 to the quarter-finals.

  • 2nd match: 1:2, (21:17, 10:21, 16:21), rival: Rachel Choong (Great Britain);
