Data for July 2024; Greece was the obvious "winner" here, but other surprising findings include:

More visitors to Poland than any country in the near East (probably due to the ongoing war, but does not explain UAE numbers)

Twice as many Cypriots visit Italy than France or Spain

5k people went to Russia amidst the ongoing war. Probably naturalised citizens?

  1. Is this just flight log aggregates?

Every July thousands of uni students and their parents visit the UK and Greece for graduation ceremonies, if so.

  2. The stats for the middle eastern countries make sense considering the ongoing wars and instability.

Italy is geographically closer than Spain and France, so a greater number of Cypriots going there makes more sense in terms of cost (albeit perhaps not by this margin).

Turkey not having any given stats is a bit surprising. Cypriot pilgrims to Istanbul and the Princes’ islands are actually quite a few, and I know many who also take cruises along the western coast. But I can surmise why the data isn’t shown.

  3. 70% of my customers in Crete are Cypriots and we all vibe and chill together, they’re awesome and always welcome. Definitely top 1% of tourists, wish we could only have them

I live in Ireland but lived in Cyprus for a year a while ago. I’m dying to meet a Cypriot in Dublin so I can tell them how much I loved it but in my 20 years here I only met one. Now I see why.

  5. Poland is also a hub to Ukrainians\Belorussians traveling to their countries. I personally know a few Ukrainian families, where females made several visits to Ukraine through Poland over the last two years.

Back in the 90s there was a cruise ship “fever” and a lot of families went on cruises to see the pyramids and the holy land.

    I miss the 90s.
