Didn’t she have to switch constituency after her own Merseyside people booted her out?

I don’t know why anyone would be shocked that she would say this, McVey is a fucking moron.

You do wonder how these people that are clearly thick as shit actually managed to rise this high up the Conservative Party. There must be some people with brains in there.

I’m surprised she left the line about communists in there

Buying a vape is literally the same as the holocaust /s
(I don’t actually agree with the ban, this will limit the interactions I have with some friends who are smokers who I like to meet down the pub)

It’s an analogy, no equivalence was being suggested, apparently.
At the very least, it shows a crass attitude toward the holocaust. Be careful when you invoke that.

What is it with right wing people and linking any minor inconvenience to the holocaust? They did this during covid to.

I’d go beyond labelling her tweet as repugnant and simply label her as repugnant.

She didn’t even get the poem right. Missed out the stanza about trade unionists.

Not the goal scoring opportunity you think it might be there dear Nige.

What the fuckity fuck? She’s comparing a smoking ban to the holocaust? Jfc.

What’s the threshold of having an investigation into antisemitism within the Conservative Party?

The worst thing about this is that even after having been told that her ‘analogy’ (a word she probably can’t spell) is inappropriate, Esther McVacant doubles down and refuses to be ‘bullied’ into taking down the tweet. That stance – complete lack of empathy, humility or regret – tells us all we need to know about the populist wing of the Conservative Party.

Just say you didn’t know it was referring to the holocaust or something, bloody hell. Keeping up the post isn’t a bold stance it’s just stupid.

Am I remembering wrong, or wasn’t it just recently that sunak enacted a plan to ban smoking entirely?
And not only that, it received fairly moderate approval across the board. But now we have a potential ban on smoking in pubs, labour are suddenly Nazis.

Fixed that for you Esther, back under your rock you pop now.

I agree with her point that authoritarians will go after the easy targets first that others might not be willing to defend.
However she should realise that the people who “they came for” first in the poem literally weren’t around to help the people who were come for later because they were dead or missing.
If Labour tries to ban something else later on, the people who previously smoked in pub gardens are still there, they can still stick up for you.

What makes this especially stupid is that she didn’t even bother to edit the poem and twist it into a direct attack on Keir Starmer’s policies…
But then again, that would require you to actually oppose the two-child benefit cap, austerity measures, the indefinite New Zealand style smoking ban, and the trans community. And we all know that Tory and New Labour policy perfectly align there.

It’s a storm in a teacup. The Jewish community at the moment are on a hair trigger but still they need to get over themselves. Mcveys point is entirely valid and good on her for not deleting it.

On clicking the post I was literally scratching my head at what Jewish people have to do with a smoking ban and I read the first sentence and all became clear. The MP is an idiot.

> Nobody is suggesting that banning smoking outside pubs can be equated with what happened to the Jews at the hands of the Nazis. It is ridiculous for anyone to even suggest that was what I was doing… It is called an analogy”
An analogy is a comparison of two things, Esther, so yes it IS equating one thing with another unless you specify the points of difference.
The right jump to absurdio ad hitlerium at the drop of the hat, whilst simultaneously downplaying fascistic behaviour within their own ranks. It’s part of the modern right-wing discourse, that attempts to improve life for the majority that reduce the privilege or access of another demographic has to be bad – especially if it’s middle or upper class white, rich society that is effected.

I’m not going to read the article…It’s McVey, so I’m just going to think of the worst thing I can and assume she said that.
