  1. What’s there to defend? He took a picture with a 20 year old charity event to stop cyclist being killed?

I mean I do sometimes get annoyed by cyclists but an event to stop people dying I can get behind

  2. Fair play to him, the Irish Taliban getting hot under the collar about an event that’s been going on for years

    > The event, which has been taking place in Cork for 15 years,

As a society we can be very prudish at times

  3. I don’t remember people complaining the last time the Cork mayor posed for the naked bike ride.

  4. This story is all just the twitter fascist weirdos going mental, the type of people who spend their evenings filming asylum seekers or hassling library workers for having lgbt books.

On a sidenote, I visited Cork for the first time properly last year, 15 minutes after getting off the train I come to the bridge to the city centre and the first thing I see is 30 odd people bollock naked on bikes, everyone about had a bit of a chuckle and moved on.

  5. Only one complaining, Ken O’Flynn. He’s son of former TD Noel O’Flynn and brother of former councillor Gary O’Flynn.

Political dynasty, they were kicked out of FF, leading to Noel’s retirement. Gary ceased being a councillor after a conspiracy to assassinate a garda and a revenue official failed. Ken has been councillor in his father’s old seat and is basically guaranteed to be elected based on legacy votes. He also has the lowest attendance out of any Councillor over the past 5 years.

He recently joined the far right Independent Ireland party. This is probably why the annual bike ride has suddenly become an issue when it hasn’t been for the entirety of his political career this far. Or maybe it’s the first time he’s noticed it.

Feeling the need to cycle naked in public is exhibitionism and weird and should be illegal.

Not sure how people on here can endorse getting sexual gratification in the presence of children.

I mentioned the councillors name to my parents and they talked for a good two minutes on how much of a ball bag he and his brother are.

Lord mayor is actually showing off things (no pun intended) that happen in the city and promoting them ao people might be interested in visiting or participating next time…gasp!

  8. The logical counter protest to this prudish cancel culture bs that’s made him feel like he’s had to defend his decision, would be for even MORE people to participate in the WNBR in Cork next year, raise more money for charity. They weren’t doing anybody any harm, it’s been going on for years before, and it’s always been a net positive.

  9. I was fully expecting him to have taken part in it. What’s the harm in posing for a photo.

  10. I’ve always wanted to do the WNBR, but was too chicken. More power to this guy. I wish people could get over their hangups with the naked body. We’d probably be better for it. Don’t knock it til you’ve tried it.

I did feel there were a couple of weirdos using the bike ride as an excuse.
