Japan's industrial production rises in July Japan’s industrial output rose in July after slipping back the month before. Production was up across the board, with 14 of 15 categories posting gains. Output of information and communications electronics equipment was especially strong.

The industry ministry says the overall index for July was up 2.8 percent from the previous month.

Information and communications electronics equipment posted a rise of 7.5 percent on a large-scale order of radar equipment.

Manufacturing machinery saw an increase of 7 percent driven by demand for semiconductor manufacturing equipment from China and Taiwan.

For the current month, the ministry says it is closely watching the impact of Tropical Storm Shanshan. It notes that automakers have been suspending their operations at domestic plants.
