  1. Smoking is what many places installed beer gardens for. Not like they built them for the good weather.

I no longer drink or smoke but standing outside talking total bollox to everyone and anyone was great craic, made loads of friends. Some for the night, some 20 yrs later.

Probably stop ye buying alcohol and taking drugs next.

I don’t smoke and I hate the smell of cigarettes. But no I fuckin dont. Isnt that what they’re there for for the most part ? Ireland’s descent into a nanny state is a pain in the arse. Stop eroding the tiny freedoms we have left

I don’t mind beer gardens or designated smoking areas, just make sure doorways and access to entrances are kept clear.

It’s annoying when people just stop at the door and smoke.

No, it’s becoming a joke how puritan the state wants to make our society.

Prices out of pubs, priced out of a box of fags like it’s fucking madness.

They want us to work flat out Monday to Friday and just look at the wall on the weekends.

  6. Kier Starmer announced this to deflect from scandal in his own government. We should definitely not follow the UK

  7. No. Where are we going to push them to now? Are we trying to make that scene in The IT Crowd a reality?

The smoking area is the beer garden, no. Did the beer gardens not come from people going outside for a smoke, and over time, it then became the beer garden.

No I don’t. I remember the ban coming in and the places that do best now are the places with a decent outdoor smoking area. It actually made a lot of pubs better because they could increase their capacity with decent outdoor areas.

  10. No but in the leaked plans from the UK, they were considering banning in kid’s play area and parks. I would consider banning in the kids play areas even if enforcement would be impossible.

If pubs have a designated area for smoking why should it be a problem for anyone. You want to smoke go there, if you don’t then don’t. With the bans already in place you do not have any reason to be beside a smoker on a pubs ground unless you choose to be.

  12. How about we ban people who want smoking banned from beer gardens from beer gardens.

If a smoking area/beer garden, was not a smoking area, but instead a big feckin orgy, with everyone in it orgying eachother, not one person would be like I want to sit out ther with all the orgy people but i think orgys and all its participants are disgusting, but I’m so stubborn I’m going to sit with them all anyways. They would all be sat elsewhere away from the orgy. But no, because it’s smoking, you all want to sit beside the smoking and then complain about the smoking. Fuck off! Don’t like it? Don’t go!

Ps. I’m not a smoker, nor would I sit beside an orgy

It would be another nail in the coffin of pubs. Is there really a need, most are smoking areas really. If the weather is good and it’s open air it’s not affecting non smokers very much. The answer is no.

What sun are you talking about, this is Ireland. I’d give up the smoking just to avoid sitting next to you in the beer garden. You’re a walking Nicorette ad.

  16. No, and im not a smoker. If i don’t want to get the second-hand smoke, im not going to sit in the smoking section, which is essentially what a beer garden is.

  17. No, why? Leave people have a night out and a smoke, I’m a non smoker, it will further kill pubs

  18. Maybe start with the housing issue instead of this virtue signalling crap. I am all for getting rid of smoking and I smoke myself. Fuck sake would the people in power actually do something constructive for the people. Something that actually helps them in their day to day lives instead of fucking around like this. If the law was changed to allow smoking in doors again I would still go outside. Its a nasty horrible thing to force on non smokers in a closed environment. Outside though is a different matter.

I hate the smell of fags as much as anyone, but I don’t understand the obsession we’ve with banning everything we don’t like. But sure getting the government involved in everything’s worked out fucking grand so far

  20. Shanksdoodlehonkster on

I dont smoke, but I usually hang around the smoking areas as its a good laugh. If you get rid of smoking in the beer gardens you also will rid yourselves of a good portion of your customers.

  21. moss-moss-moss-moss on

No. I don’t smoke, but this won’t stop people from smoking. It’ll just make people smoke at the front of the pub, and make it difficult to get in.
