  1. Young people and especially young *women* showing the fuck up in droves. Were I trump I’d be shitting my drawers more than before. Maybe even more than that.

  2. I’m loving these headlines, but everyone still needs to get out and actually vote!

  3. Young women, do you want your autonomy over your own body back? If so, register now and vote.

And what makes it funnier is how his, and his trolls, sexist and racist attacks are only driving more people AWAY. It was a gimmick that worked in 16 but people are trying it.

This isn’t a poll, this is actual data on new voter registrations. It turns out that after Biden dropped out of the race and Harris became the nominee, there was a surge in new voter registrations in normally pro-Democratic demographic groups (younger voters, Hispanic and black voters, and especially young black women and young Hispanic women). Basically, new voters are excited about Harris in a way that they definitely weren’t about Biden. And yes, Trump should be scared.

  6. that’s awesome, any time citizens become more active understanding and exercising their rights, that’s great.

i’ll make sure to do my part and vote. if you haven’t registered yet, it’s a good time to do it, registration deadlines are coming up. checking if your registration is up to date, is probably also a good idea.

    [vote.gov/register](http://vote.gov/register)

you can check your state’s voter registration deadline from the website below if you haven’t registered yet:

  7. I know as Democrats we’re constant doomers….especially because of 2016. But when you see this data, the fact that Democrats have a far more sophisticated get out the vote infrastructure, and the fact that Trump is campaigning like he’s retired.

It’s hard not to feel good about our chances.

Great news! Now finish off the creepy weirdos!

Donate blue, volunteer blue (see https://indivisible.org/ ), and enthusiastically vote blue with your friends!

Smarts, enthusiasm and joy– not complacency– wins freedom and democracy.

  9. We still need to get people to register to vote and then to actually vote in the election. Its time to make orange juice.

  10. The key thing here is that it’s massive growth in new voters over 2020. The 2020 election already had participation at a level not seen in decades.

  11. Seeing that the surge in registration outpaces 2020, when it felt like there was a huge cultural movement to register and vote out Trump is extremely heartening. It’s not over until cheetoh man tries to overthrow democracy again, but it’s good news regardless. Vigilance is still just as important

The RFK vote doesn’t seem to be as substantial as they thought it would be.

  13. DuckmanDrake69 on

I’d hope so. If Trump gets in this country will never be the same. It’ll be a thing of the past.

  14. Familiar_Paramedic_2 on

First time naturalized voter here. I am gonna vote blue so emphatically I may even break the pencil/lever/whatever awaits me in the booth.

  15. I’m getting annoyed with all these ‘SHOCKING! Thing is still thing!’ stories running around.

Like, did they do a surprise poll? Was the data itself shocked? Did they only count people who were jump scared? No?

Then it wasn’t surprise data. The RESULTS may have been a bit unexpected, but not the data.

  16. RedditAdminsWivesBF on

Well of course they are, Trump’s whinny, vengeful, hate circus is getting really old, just like him.

For the last several elections we have been voting against something, it’s nice to have something to vote for.

Does America really want to go back to the corrupt, bitchy Trump administration? Do we really want to start this crap all over again?

This has to be combined with an effective ground game which I am not sure how much the Trump campaign has invested in the get to the polls effort

I can hear their footsteps when I get on the decks…

It’s like the difference between sticking your hand in a deep fryer or a bowl of marshmallows…and people are STILL on the fence!

  22. I haven’t been “excited” to vote for a presidential candidate since Obama. I voted against Trump twice which isn’t the same thing. I suspect a lot of people feel the same way.

  23. Can somebody clarify what the data means. There are two interpretations of “10% increase in registration week of july 21 2020 vs. 2024”

    1. It could mean that 100 people registered **during** that week in 2020 and now 110 people registered.
    2. It could mean that 1000 people registered **by that week** in 2020 and by this point 1100 people have registered.

If it’s the former, then it’s not as strong of a datapoint for Dems. But if it’s the latter that would be huge.

  24. People are tired of the negativity, they see Dems having fun, unifying, and celebrating their candidate. The contrasts can’t be any starker.

  25. Alternative title: Good news for Democracy – How Kamala Harris as the pro democracy candidate energizes people fighting for democracy.

  26. So a candidate with a positive attitude and lots of energy is attracting more new voters than an elderly and largely incoherent hate monger?

    I can’t imagine why.

  27. TorontoPolarBear on

Is there any reason to think that these new voters are not showing up in polls? Either because they don’t pass likely voter screens (generally screen for things like: if you voted before) or if they are just not answering polls.

I’m not saying the polls are wrong, only asking how they account for these things.

  28. CuthbertJTwillie on

New GOP initiative. First time voters only get provisional ballots so they know how the process works. Think of it a s a training run for next time.

  29. Your saying GenX doesn’t want a geriatric Nazi. I am shocked, ok maybe shocked isn’t the right word

  30. Mjmanifold101 on

I think it would be safer they registered as independent instead of democrat, so the vote can be counted, I would not trust this GOP.

  31. Everyday, thousands of Kamala voters become adults.

Everyday, thousands of Trump voters become corpses.

  32. Independent-Bug-9352 on

So obviously here’s the usual: Polls can help adjust strategy and see the trends… But you must always Vote, Actively Campaign (donate, canvass, phone-bank, etc.), and combat trolls on social media and have those hard talks with friends & family.

… BUT GOOD NEWS: [CBS: “Voter registration surging compared to 2020, data firm finds.”](https://youtu.be/jrMar7jbHjs?si=O0P3YorWobuf8rhC)

Polling volatility rises greatly when there are people who normally don’t vote come out to register and vote. Polling volatility is thus off the scales, which means we could, as this analyst notes, be heading for another 2020/2022 surge in Democratic voters… Which wouldn’t reflect in current polling aggregators (that already are looking good, trend-wise).

  33. einarfridgeirs on

Something to keep in mind: These new voters don’t show up in polls that are corrected for demograpics very well.
