Time to call Trump and MAGA cowards at every chance possible. That is what they are, dumb ignorant incel cowards.

  2. > Trump’s team, according to the source, would like for the microphones to be muted throughout the debate except for the candidate whose turn it is to speak, as was the case during the first debate with President Joe Biden.

    > The Harris campaign, however, is requesting that ABC and other networks seeking to host a potential October debate keep microphones on, according to a senior campaign official, marking a change from the June debate when the then-Biden campaign wanted microphones muted except when it was a candidate’s turn to speak.

    > “Our understanding is that Trump’s handlers prefer the muted microphone because they don’t think their candidate can act presidential for 90 minutes on his own. We suspect Trump’s team has not even told their boss about this dispute because it would be too embarrassing to admit they don’t think he can handle himself against Vice President Harris without the benefit of a mute button,” he said.

I think he’d use the “N” word without a doubt if they leave the microphones on.

    She’s hoping for it.

I just made a comment about this yesterday.

Muting Trump works with Biden but with Harris, she can handle his interjections and will use them as an opportunity to embarass him.

Trump’s staff already know this because they are smarter than he is.

  5. Trump was planning to chicken out of the ABC debate with Harris all along. He only said he would go to try to trick her into a FOX debate September 4, but she didn’t fall for that.

    “over microphone dispute”

pretty sure trump’s fear of being publicly humiliated by harris is a slightly larger reason

  7. Sad thing is Trump needs them muted because the contrast between him and Harris would be even more pronounced by the fact that he can’t shut up and keep himself from saying racist and misogynistic things when it is someone else’s turn to speak.

  8. He is just trying to grab headlines and create chaos. He is incapable of challenging her on policy so he deflects.

So the Biden team asked for mics to be muted in their rules for that first debate. Probably thinking they didn’t want Trump sucking up time but Biden could still hear him and it let Trump look more succinct. But the Harris team is rightly calculating that having him interrupt, ramble, yell, etc. over time is likely to be a terrible look (any reasonable person catching a rally for the first time is baffled and weirded out) and increases the likelihood he says something truly egregious.

What I like about the Harris team and how she runs it is she allows them to be super aggressive and to make decisions within our reality. It’s a lot of Biden people leftover but they’re behaving more forward thinking.

You would think Harris would want the mics muted to prevent Trump from talking out of turn, but I see the 3D chess here. She wants open mics in case Trump calls her a bitch or the N word.

  11. Trump is rethinking being on the same stage as Harris. He knows he will expose his ignorance and mental instability, so becoming a felon on the run from debates might be a better option.

Feels to me like the Harris campaign is using reverse/child psychology on him. Distracting him from other efforts to weasel out of the debate by throwing out this red herring issue with the negotiated rules …. and, in the process, forcing him to argue for mics being muted … which is what the Harris campaign wants in the first place. Feels kinda brilliant.

  13. This bit is priceless. I remember getting downvoted before the first debate for saying a muted mic would help Trump. Nice to see Harris’s campaign thinks the same:

    >Our understanding is that Trump’s handlers prefer the muted microphone because they don’t think their candidate can act presidential for 90 minutes on his own. We suspect Trump’s team has not even told their boss about this dispute because it would be too embarrassing to admit they don’t think he can handle himself against Vice President Harris without the benefit of a mute button.

  14. Is the biggest baddest, strongest smartest MAN in the WORLD afraid to have a conversation with a. *gasp*. A. Woman?!

Yeah. Pretty on brand for Republicans. Your God is a wanker.

  15. It’s because she know he won’t be able to control himself and will certainly throw some slurs under his breath.

Avoiding debates could limit his exposure to tough questions, but it might also alienate undecided voters.

So the Trump team now OPENLY acknowledges Trump can’t act in control for 90 min without a mute button… but of course they claim he’ll be fine in the Oval Office. 🙄

  18. If this debate does occur, she need to do four things:
    • She needs to respond strongly to when brings up arbitrary last minute 9th month or post-birth abortions as a matter of whim. In the one debate Hillary shrugged it off with some comment about those being tragic situations but it came off as if she conceded that it does happen.
    • She needs to give some policy specifics, such as keeping the ACA, taxes, education (including financial support for BOTH college AND trade schools), foreign policy, reproductive rights, environment, nominating sensible judges who will influence the court for the next 20+ years, etc.
    • She need to remind everyone that the benefits of the ACA (Obamare) cover you whether you get your insurance from your employer or from the exchanges. These benefits include protecting people with pre-existing conditions, allowing your kids to stay on your policy until age 26, and eliminating lifetime caps on payments.
    • She needs to point out that he never answers questions and constantly repeats the same statements. Perhaps approach it the way Chris Christie destroyed Rubio during that debate and call him out right away.

  19. TFG’s team is looking for an excuse to cancel.

**”The Harris campaign, however, is requesting that ABC and other networks seeking to host a potential** ***October*** **debate keep microphones on”**

October. Not September. They are accusing Harris of trying to change the rules to a future debate that isn’t agreed upon yet.

  20. This is presidential debate for “I’m not stuck in here with you, you are stuck in here with me.”

  21. God what a 180. Trump was the biggest champion for open microphones until Kamala rolled. Now he’s panicking lol

  22. I honestly could see both arguments being beneficial to the Harris campaign.

Muted: Kamala can actually speak and convey her message.

Unmuted: The world continues to see how unhinged Trump can/will be, especially when his opponent is a younger, woman of color.

  23. mailmehiermaar on

They want to feed Trump lines when Harris is speaking. With a microphone on they cannot do that.

  24. Squirrel_Chucks on

    >We agreed to the same rules, I don’t know, doesn’t matter to me, I’d rather have it probably on, but the agreement was that it would be the same as it was last time,” Trump said when asked by a reporter if he wanted the microphones muted during the debate when the candidate is not speaking

*It doesn’t matter to me or maybe it does. The rules last time are fine or maybe they are not.*

Always trying to talk himself around all sides of the issue.

Like when he said it was “unfortunately or fortunately’ true that famous men sexually assault women.

Brilliant political move. He looks weak no matter if the accepts or rejects that proposal.

  26. jackieat_home on

I read about this earlier in a right leaning article that was claiming it’s clear Kamala is imposing rules to try to get Trump to drop out because she doesn’t want to debate him. That doesn’t track at all, but I’ll bet people still believe it.
