  1. For comparison, the LLS brings in revenue of ~€6m per year, so fees for guests are <3% of that figure.

Actually a lot lower than I would have expected, the per guest breakdowns in the article are tiny.

  3. Seems reasonable tbh, I don’t watch any of them so no idea how big the names they have on are but people won’t do it for free and that’s not a massive cost for a business.

  4. Is this headline raised a an issue or for our information?? Guests payments are part of every tv network budget. Why does everything have to be a spin. That number could be v cheap compared to other tv budgets…

  5. Doesn’t seem all that usual. Big names charge appearance fees to entertain audiences and even small names are going to need to be accommodated in hotels etc. It adds up

  6. It would be interesting to know how many of those guests are RTE stars mor have previously had a show on RTE

  7. Some of those guests were RTE staff. Get rid of this show as well to be honest. Make it an event a couple of times a year and get some quality guests.

  8. TLLS would easily cover that cost from the phone/text competition. Though they won’t tell us how much they make from those.

  9. €800 per guest is basically just covering guest expenses rather than payment for appearance?

That number could be half or a quarter of that, and people would still say it’s too high.

“€40,000 was paid out to 552 guests. The per-person payment worked out at just over €72, an analysis of the figures showed.”

Sticking 40,000 in a calculator and dividing by 552 is “analysis”.

Tubs should do this for free on You Tube. That would get us all back watching him.

The RTE execs would be kicking themselves for losing such talent!

Any sign of Dee Forbes in the shops in Cork or is she getting everything delivered?

I have been a guest on RTE radio several times. They are very strict about actually paying an appearance fee to those who are on air no matter how non-famous you are (presumably excluding someone who’s promoting a book etc as mentioned in the article). This is apparently a union rules thing – no freebies, no taking advantage of people who might be pressured to go on “for the exposure”. I was also on TV3 a fair bit and they were much more lax – if I hassled them I got paid. With RTE they would hassle me to make sure they had my payment details etc.

I was absolutely at the bottom end of the scale of importance – I’m sure that with celebs there are much higher fees, but I’m happy that they pay even non-famous people a nominal fee.

  14. How much did Russell Crowe get to back out an acoustic guitar and embarrass himself like a pissed uncle.

Half the guests they round up in the RTE canteen on a Friday so there must be some savings there.
