  1. Well, after the huge shock of a prison sentence and having taken drugs shortly before being arrested.

  2. Addict or not if he did crime he needs to take responsibility for it. Without the detail we can assume the sentence was commensurate. There’s a lot more to this story than the headline. But The Journal again showing zero class or empathy. But am sure they’re delighted with themselves with that completely unprovable headline.

“… he had expected to receive a suspended sentence and was planning to attend a football match with one of his children later that day…”

He thought it would be just like milion times before….i can understand the shock then

  4. The sheer lack of self awareness on display in this sub never ceases to amaze. Let’s get our validation/engagement fix for the hour by conveying a “ha ha get fucked” to another addict. While showing zero empathy for a grieving family and loss of life.

    Condoles to the man’s family.

  5. He was an upstanding member of the community, running an award winning business, who lost everything during the pandemic, turned to drugs, got addicted and now he’s dead.

We are all of us so fucking close to being this guy on any given day it’s not even funny.

His mistake was not beating or kicking people in the head. He’d have got a fully suspended sentence.

Yet a 17 yo killed a man in a stolen car few weeks ago despite multiple convictions and curfew nor followed and he is still free.

Another victim of the war on drugs.

How often do we read about pedophiles, abusers, and perverts getting fully suspended sentences?

Drunk drivers risk everyone’s life, and they rarely face prison.

He’s passed on and his struggles are over.  Only those who knew and loved him will keenly feel his loss. RIP

  10. Has anyone managed to find an article from when he got convicted in June of 2022 in Cork? Have they all been scrubbed? All I can find from that month is a addict who owed €80k of debt and with 34 convictions getting a sentence of 11 months. Whereas this article speaks of a 18 month sentence handed down in June 2022
