So according to the regs, the double yellow lines need to follow the kerbline. The old streetview photo posted above before the cycle hangar makes it a bit clearer: the small change in grade means the kerbline is a bit unclear.
You can see on the other side of the junction a van parked in a bay behind the curved double yellow lines. I guess they’re trying to make it clear on this side you can’t do that. Realistically it doesn’t really matter, especially now the bike hangar is there.
Can’t blame the 2009 council for being overzealous: motorists have proven that if you don’t have every square inch of the city covered by parking restrictions they will park there. Manchester council regularly plays cat and mouse with motorists who figure out that a certain central reservation, or pedestrian zone, or bike path, isn’t covered with the correct signage to the letter of the law, and once one person gets away with it without a ticket, it only takes about 2 weeks for it to be completely overrun with cars. I’ve seen it happen countless times.

They were just repainted over existing ones. Streetview shows them [as far back as 2009](https://maps.app.goo.gl/fiQGbbNLM4VRAw1b6?g_st=ic). I wonder what the big deal is supposed to be?

Motorists started parking on a central reservation under the raised motorway in Manchester once someone realised there’s technically no parking restrictions there, including on the newly landscaped gravel/planting areas.
