With an altitude of 39 km (24 miles) and zero orbital velocity, compared to the ISS at an altitude of 420 km (260 miles) and orbital velocity of 27,000 kmh^^(-1) (17,500 mph), it’s like wondering if a surfer can rescue the crew of a submersible at the bottom of the Marianas Trench.

I remember being super interested in following this. I wish more companies did cool stuff like this if they are going to spend money on advertising anyway.

One of the most breathtaking things I’ve ever watched on tv. The long ascent built the tension perfectly & when Felix finally exited the capsule to go, he gave one more deliberate pause so we could all savor the moment. The whole thing was dynamite.

probably not, the difference is Baumgartner went up in a balloon and had a negligible ground speed, and the ISS is in orbit moving at about 17,500 mph. The friction(heating) from slowing using aerobraking is the challenge with bringing people home from orbit.
