>Is Ireland receiving a lot more migrants, asylum seekers and people fleeing Ukraine than other European countries? No, in general we’re in the middle (although we’re quite high on the percentage of foreign born). However, Ireland historically received very few forced migrants in particular, so even this move into the middle represents a big change from the past that Ireland needs to build capacity for.
I thought this was a good read. Some quality information back up by stats and statistics

This graph shows…
Rte produces too many comfort pieces. The real question is does Ireland have too many false asylum seekers and whats the stats behind that.
Migrant needs to be dropped from these refrences way too many people are not properly educated and confuse it with immigrant

It’s good to see some statistics however if we use the numbers for this year 2024, we would be 5th on the graph of asylum seekers per 1000 people
So it shows that we have gone from being almost at the very bottom to near the top.
Number seeking asylum in Ireland rises 94% in first six months of 2024
The question should be “Does Ireland have more refugees and migrants than other countries taking into account housing / services capacity”…

The very high percentage of foreign born and the preexisting housing crisis are the key complicating factors.

To compare numbers without speaking about infrastructure makes no sense.
“One of the main challenges in Ireland is that we are suffering from major infrastructure deficits after years of low capital investment during austerity, while the population continued to grow.”
Do we have GPs, hospital spaces, school spaces and housing for all these people? The answer is clear so comparing us to other countries is a pretty silly exercise when we just don’t have the infrastructure in place

Surely the size of the country/communities and it’s/their services should come into play.
