The Walzes have been nearly perfect in talking about their neurodivergent son, Gus

  1. The contrast between how proud his family is and, and trumps and JD’s family is… can’t get more polar opposite than that.

  2. His excited, tear-filled “that’s my dad” moment during the acceptance speech should be an enduring image of the night or the whole convention.

  3. I love his reaction at the conference. He loves his Dad so much, that he can’t contain it.

I’m a 47 y/o former infantry dude. I was in tears myself (like his son).

Woo I may have to take a step back from watching all of this political stuff for a few weeks. I am becoming terrified that America will not do the right thing.

Kamala and This man literally has everything Democrats and progressives claim they want as far as policies and you still have some people who are undecided?

  5. I have the same conditions as their son. I’m 27 and life has been really difficult. I feel invisible so much of the time, but seeing stuff like this makes me feel like I matter, too

Everyone better be nice to him or I will drive up there myself and put a stop to it!!!!

I’ve been very in my feels these last three nights, but that cut to Gus tearful with pride and admiration for his dad got me joy sobbing.

A month ago I didn’t know Tim Walz, and now I believe he is an orator on par with Barack and Michelle Obama.

As a father of two neurodivergent boys, it’s made me love Coach Walz even more. It’s not easy for them but I’ll always fight for them and for acceptance of all people. Walz is with me on that, so I’m with him.

  10. Their son was absolutely adorable tonight. When his dad was speaking, he was so excited, crying and yelling….”That’s my dad”

It was beautiful and made me cry too

  11. Father and 4th grade teacher here. My son is neurodivergent and I am blessed to teach amazing kids who share their incredible neurodivergent lives with me. I see and hear you. I love you. You are NEVER alone. I got you brother!! Reach out anytime!

  12. I got diagnosed with autism last year at the ripe old age of 41 after a lifetime of feeling like a complete alien who struggled at school, struggled at work and struggled to keep friends. The response from my mum was unsupportive to say the least. I wish I’d had someone like Walz in my life. It is a lonely existence but I’m so glad Gus is surrounded by so much love.

I swear to god if Trump or Vance comes for Gus there is going to be hell to pay

I recently found out that my daughter is neurodivergent. Governor Walz gives me hope to be a better parent for my daughter. How can anyone chose Trump/Vance over Harris/Walz?

  14. the right is going to be real POS to this kid thus further showing the type of jerks they are.

  15. I came on Reddit to find a place to say how moved I was by the love Walz’s son has for his dad. I didn’t know anything about his son before tonight, but lord, I teared up when Gus stood up and yelled, “That’s my dad!” That moment says everything we need to know about how Walz treats people behind closed doors.

Love this family, so desperately want a normal middle class American family in the white house to represent us.

  17. This thread is a good example of Reddit at its best. I did not know anything about Gus and I was curious to learn. The people on here sharing their painful, difficult journey w NVLD has been illuminating. Walz will be a wonderful champion to support research, treatment and understanding. Thanks to all here for sharing.

  18. I quickly read the article

I still don’t understand this kid issue

    It doesn’t matter

It should not matter, unless something is a real indictment of their characters the private life of politicians should stay just that. This is why I think trump familial stories are so disgusting.

All I need to get from this article I knew it before waltz is a good human being who loves his family and does all the best he can for them

This being said, showing some more light on neuro divergent persons and how with help and love there live matters and is rich and makes others richer… That’s a good thing. I am afraid that Stirling this pot during an election and with someone as gross and shameless and cruel and small as they have as an opponent is a risky proposition. Not that they have much of a choice

  19. Diagnosed AuDHD at 50. I’m not sure I want to delve into what is going to be said about Gus or anything other than how lovingly the Wales care for him.

As someone who is a borderline 2 for needs, I’m hoping Walz will champion disability causes and those of us with disabilities struggle in an ableist system just to get care and SSDI

“Most recently, comedian Chris Rock disclosed that he received a diagnosis after a friend initially thought he might be somewhere on the autism spectrum.”

Um… okay… How is this relevant?

  21. I love that so many people are learning the term neurodivergent tonight! I’ve learned it’s not as mainstream as I thought it was. Great advocacy coming from the Walz family, for sure! I personally, as a neurodivergent person, do not like the term superpower anymore, to be used, because I find that it can be taken in a way to downplay the actual hardships, challenges, suffering that can come with some of these conditions that make us neurodivergent, but if that’s what they want to use, how they want to describe some of the unique abilities, then who am I to say? Overall, so happy to have attention brought to this! 🙂 And I love how they weren’t trying to tamper any of his expression tonight. He was unabashedly safe and free to be himself. 🙂

  22. Walz and family are genuinely good, caring folk. I can not imagine the twisted minds that try to drag him through the mud.

  23. when he got up and was getting emotional during his dads speech it just turned me into places, how genuine it felt how moved he was, all that emotion was at once cathartic, moving and just happy 🙂

Oh hey, I have that condition. I’ve never heard it brought up before, it’s not well known
