This has vibes of a kid who has wanted to do this since they were 8, and made their entire career around working their way up in the rankings in order to do this. Well played.

>A spokesperson from the German Navy told the BBC the music had “no deeper message” and “the commander can choose the music freely”.
Exactly what a invasion force would say.

Much like with football the Germans have taken banter and perfected it.

Ironically the Germans would probably have been more embarrassed if he’d played the German national anthem in full.

We went alongside in Hamburg on HMS Campbeltown and did the usual ‘Ship Open to Visitors’ so the locals can come on board and have a gander.
One of the chefs was stationed next to the port
20mm guns, and a local expressed his disdain that the guns were not ‘being demonstrated’.
The chef replied that he did not think a British frigate popping off shots would be a good look. The German asked if he could at least explain what the gun was used for? His exasperated reply of ‘downing Stukas and picking off U-boat survivors’ did not go down very well.

Got to credit the commander of that boat. Excellent sense of humour.
Would have been much better without the usual idiotic BBC unremovable subtitles

Imperial March as it it is going backwards, whilst being towed.
Would have made more sense if it was steaming up the Thames tbh.

The best part is the German official saying ‘nothing to see here, nothing to worry about!’. All jokes aside, I thought it was brilliant haha. Good on the Captain for having a sense of humour!
