My question today is for the ‘Southern Azerbaijan’ separatists, who, although a minority, still exist in our country. The first thing I’m curious about is which side you supported in the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict. If your answer is Azerbaijan, then on what principles and arguments do you defend the Iranian Azerbaijan separatism?

I would be really surprised to find a single Azerbaijani who supports separatism in Iranian Azerbaijan and separatism in NK. I doubt that such a person exists.

Well,we had Armenians in our parliament even Dashnaksutyun party in early 20th century. They had their own schools even autonomy. They could speak armenian, they had their own churches, they built their own monuments in Khankendi without any problem. They forced Azerbaijanis out of Karabakh during the war and from Armenia before the Karabakh war. They hate us.  I am not a supporter of South Azerbaijan seperatism however they did not have the “freedom” that armenians in Azerbaijan had and still they do not have.

azeris are meek people so they will not start seperatist movements, the kurds for example there have been fighting them for like over a 100 years now, i cannot imagine ever south azeris picking up arms

they will only start to fight back like we did against (ARF) armenians a 100 years ago when your presence is continuously eradicated by genocidal forces, if that doesnt happen talks about seperatism in the south in pointless

if we are left alone in acceptable standards that is enough for our people, we see this zeitgeist across all our people from georgia to iran and we see this attitude under Alijev

that said there are always outliers with delusions of grandeur, they should understand its pointless for the reason mentioned

  4. Ahem…how can there be S.A. separatists here? By definition, so-called separatists should be there in Iran. If in Azerbaijan then actual members of some sort of separatist movement. Therefore your line of questioning is a bit weird.

Also the photo made me chuckle. You basically just showed people with ethnic Azerbaijani background with the title of “separatists” lol.

You didn’t exactly ask but I personally think turks in Iran are docile people and they are devoted to Iran as a country. They would rather completely topple the Iranian regime (which they did btw before) and take over the country than actually separate as an independent entity. That being said even an actual ongoing movement in Iran kinda focused more on getting basic decent human rights for language and cultural freedom rather than independence. I would go a step further to say the Iranian regime is actually shooting its own foot at the moment by not complying with their demands as such things can very well turn into the pro-independence movement.

From Az.Rep. perspective I would say unification is unrealistic and we should focus more on what we have and how to improve it than trying to live with fairytales of a greater country. Otherwise we’ll end up like our poor sod neighbour Armenia lol.

South azerbajiani seperatism is not a minority it is atleast %60 or %70 as anti regime regime stance directly translates to seperatism in non iranic segments of the iranian society the rest %40 are not pro regime because of the religion

Existance of tractor sazi demonstrations the mass azerbajiani demonstration in tabriz against the ”donkey turk” caricature crisis protestors chanting ”azadlıq milli hukumet” in 2023 demonstrations show that seperatism is indeed mainstream iranian occupied south azerbajian even though the statistics on the matter cant be estimated accurately because of the regime cencorship

  7. I have two reasons to be against NK seperatism, but to support South Azerbaijan seperatism.

    1) I believe hypocricy is good strategy in politics.

    2) apart from hypocricy, I also have fair reason. I do support NK to be inside of Azerbaijan as autonomous state and maybe would support South Azerbaijan be autonomous state inside of Iran, but not under current Iran government. And I understand armenians who don’t want to be under Aliyev’s reign as well.
