On December 16, 1991, Kazakhstan declared its independence. There is an opinion that Turkey recognized Kazakhstan’s independence half an hour after its declaration. I am not sure how true this is, but it is a very popular opinion and probably true. At that time, the president of Turkey was Turgut Ozal. What do you think about this? If you are older or know the opinion of your adult friends, how did you or they feel when the Turkic countries gained independence in 1991?

  1. I was a teenager back then I felt/thought nothing. The main surprise was that the USSR was dissolving and it didn’t make any sense to me as I didn’t understand how a country could just be divided into parts like that on its own, but for the countries that came out of USSR, I didn’t think anything about them.

Kind of a weird question….what could anyone feel about it other than “good” 😂 do you expect someone to say “actually no i think all the central Asian states should remain subservient regions to the USSR” come on lol

İt’s also not crazy for Türkiye to be among the first to recognize the independence of Turkic brethren states and also the dissolution of a very powerful and dangerous northern neighbor

Honestly curious on what the range of opinions you expected was

  3. there were no soviet union members left when kazakhstan announced their independence. what the hell do you expect us to think about it?
